Hi! I’m a four-year-old, 11-lb Shih Tzu - Poodle blend called Lord Farquaad. I may be short and dark-haired like the Shrek character, but I’m actually the most loving and affectionate little guy. Read on to learn more about me.
General Behavior: This handsome little fella has a beautiful zest for life. He loves everyone and is always eager to play. He acts timid and tries to scoot away when any of us go to pick him up, but then he enjoys being held.
Likes & Dislikes: Lord Farquaad loves to chew so rawhide-free bones are a must. He likes to cuddle, but can also be independent as long as he is near his person. By contrast, he is not a fan of loud noises such as the vacuum cleaner and he will hide underneath a bed or chair.
Training: Lord Farquaad has the makings of a little gentleman! He is housetrained if let out regularly, loves going for rides in the car, and sleeps in a dog bed at night. He will need to work on a few basic manners as he plays too roughly sometimes and jumps. He will pull and try to run when he first goes out on a leash, but will settle in for a decent walk once his excitement settles. He gets very excited upon meeting people and will sometimes pee from excitement. Oops!
Medical: Lord Farquaad has cataracts in both eyes, but he is still visual. He was also just prescribed Optimmune Ophthalmic ointment for dry eye. The ointment will need to be applied every 12 hours and he takes it like a champ. The cost is about $30 per month.
Other Animals: Lord Farquaad can be calm with senior/non playful dogs and will entertain himself with his dog toys, but would prefer another playful companion. He hasn’t been observed around cats, but his foster thinks he’d be OK with them.
Children: Lord Farquaad is good with children of all ages.
Home: Lord Farquaad could probably do well in an apartment, condo, or single-family home. Sometimes he barks when left alone, but other times he has been quiet and he’s usually quiet when his foster returns home, too.
Grooming: Lord Farquaad should be professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks, bathed between grooms, brushed/combed a few times a week and he should have his teeth brushed a few times a week as well.
Overall: Lord Farquaad is a great, loyal boy and will bring a lot of fun and joy to his future family.
Could you and Lord Farquaad live happily ever after together? Do you live in the central Florida region? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. He is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered, and he has just had his teeth cleaned. His adoption donation is $375.
