Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Dutch! Dutch is a 10-year-old, 17 lb., Shih Tzu who was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. Super cute, and super scared, this pup needed some help. Dutch was treated for pneumonia and received a dental. He has good vision and hearing and is fully housebroken. Dutch can handle a few stairs and walks well on a leash. He is content being in a small penned area and sleeps in a doggy bed. Dutch is good on a leash and enjoys being outside. Dutch needs a patient family that is willing to work with him to gain trust. He would prefer an adult-only home but he gets along well with other dogs. Dutch craves affection but needs a slow approach until he feels comfortable. Once he is comfortable, he wants lots of pets, kisses, and scratches. Dutch doesn’t like being picked up or sitting in laps right now, but rather enjoys sitting near his people. Dutch is very food motivated and tippy taps with joy when it’s mealtime. He likes hanging out with other dogs and basking in warm sunshine. Dutch gets excited to see his favorite people and has even been known to “dance” in the kitchen. If you have a big heart and a bit of patience, please open up your home to Dutch. Apply today!

MEET CANDY! This petite Shih Tzu is around 8 years old and was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter due to housing restrictions. Candy quickly came down with an upper respiratory infection at the shelter and urgently needed out so joined City of Elderly Love where she could recover. It took a bit of work to catch her up on vet care but now that she is, she's feeling amazing and ready to head to her forever home! Candy is just as sweet as her namesake and loves to snuggle in fluffy dog beds. She may be 8 years young, but she is always up for an adventure! She and her foster love to explore the city together and she's a regular at our adoption events! Candy adores people and other dogs and isn't afraid to let another dog know they're being rude. Candy is fully house trained and loves going for walks. Her favorite things are car rides, cuddling, and butt scratches. Sometimes you'll look over and see Candy happily entertaining herself with a toy. Since being in foster care with City of Elderly Love, Candy has been spayed, had a mammary mass removed, seen a cardiologist for a full workup including EKG, and received a dental cleaning. Candy has an enlarged heart and a grade 6/6 heart murmur that she takes daily medication for. Thankfully, the meds are very affordable. Her foster likes to think that Candy's heart being large is attributed to how much love she has to give! Candy is the perfect addition this Holiday season. Bucky found himself at the shelter because his owner could no longer care for him. Sadly, Bucky had two owners and neither bothered to ever take him to see a vet. But we changed all of that! He was neutered at the shelter and our vet treated his corneal ulcer. Bucky has a condition that is fairly common to Shih Tzu's, dry eye. But it's easily treated with daily eye drops. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will bring warmth and joy to your life, Bucky is the one for you. FLFO requires a home visit therefore adopters must be within 40 miles of Baldwin MD.
