Story
Kiwi is very much a companion animal. He wants to be near his person and will sit at your feet or on your lap for hours. He is very eager to please. Kiwi had parvo very badly as a young puppy so he was having difficulty with knowing when he has to go to the bathroom. He still has a disconnect between knowing that he has to go and alerting you. When he has to go he has difficulty holding it. It's imperative that you're willing to let him consistently. He is getting better as he ages so perhaps training and time will alleviate the issue. He's very sweet and loving which makes it worth the effort. He will need a fenced yard. His adoption fee of $375 includes neuter, microchipped and vaccinations We are located in the Colorado Springs area. All adoptions require a home visit. Please apply at www.whimperstowags.org under 'Forms'. Thank you!February 10, 2025, 2:50 pm

Story
This pup was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2318650##

Story
Rhino is a very lovable boy, full of energy and LOVES to play fetch with squeaky toys. He is very smart, yet still has some issues to work on. He can be in a home with other dogs, but preferably female dogs. He can be around other male dogs, but is slightly aggressive at first until he gets to know them. We are choosing to re-home him as he was supposed to be a playmate for our other dog and unfortunately his presence has made her revert back to some old ways.

Please contact Constance (connibouchard@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Rescued dogBiography Important Information Please read! If you are interested in me after reading about me, please visit my site, http://www.breederadoptions.org and follow the instructions. The majority of the dogs we rescue, mostly breeder dogs, have lived their entire lives in less-than-ideal conditions so will need to be socialized, house and leash trained. Most have never lived in a house, walked on a leash, had a treat or sat in a lap. For many of them, their feet have never touched the ground after living for years on wire until they arrive at our main facility where they are evaluated, groomed and given vet care. Most of these dogs are not socialized and need to be cornered to be picked up, so are not suitable for people with physical disabilities or suffer from PTSD. They need folks who will make them the center of their world and help them learn to trust before even attempting to train.  Please do not apply if you do not meet the requirements of the dogs we rescue.  However, they will learn with time, love, patience and most of all, commitment. You must have an ample supply of all of these to reap the rewards of watching these very special dogs become your wonderful companion. We state any known health issues, all are altered unless there is a medical reason not to, which we will advise, any known medical issues addressed, are microchipped, are UTD on all vaccines and have been checked out by at least one veterinarian, usually two. We do not guarantee the health of any of our rescued dogs. The dogs we rescue have lived with other dogs all of their lives and most get along with other dogs. We state if they are dog aggressive. We require a permanent, full-time parent. That means you must be able to spend the majority of your time with your new companion to socialize and train. We do not, under any circumstances, place them in homes with young children as they have not been exposed to children and we do not know how they will react. Please do not waste your time or ours if you are not prepared to adopt within 2 weeks and you are not willing to pick the dog up at its location. Hi! My name is Cry Baby, and I am a beautiful Maltitzu girl who was born 7/27/19, and I weigh 9 pounds. A sibling to learn from and play with would be ideal. If you have been waiting for a gorgeous Shih Tzu +, please ask for me on your application to http://www.breederadoptions.org. Love, Cry Baby 072024-46  December 8, 2024, 9:38 pm

Story
Meet Gordie – A Playful but Shy Shih TzuGordie is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 13 pounds, and he’s a sweet boy who is still learning to trust. While he may be shy with people, he completely comes to life around other dogs! He loves to play, run, and engage with his canine friends, making him a great fit for a home with another playful pup who can help boost his confidence.Though he’s nervous about being picked up, he is making progress every day. With gentle handling and patience, he is slowly learning that human touch can be comforting. He is also learning how to take treats from your hand, which will help with his training and socialization.Gordie does not yet know how to walk on a leash, so he will need a patient family to help him gain confidence and work on leash training. His confidence is growing, and he is beginning to open up more as he settles into his new surroundings.Gordie is looking for a calm, understanding home that will continue to help him build trust at his own pace. He thrives in the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with a friendly, confident canine companion. If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, and gentle pup who just needs a little extra time and encouragement, Gordie is ready to take that journey with you. Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog`s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website.
