Story
Poor, sweet Petunia was a terrific mess of mats and foxtails, she needed help - badly! Fortunately she landed at the Porterville Shelter and they took care of her! Now at Milo and gearing up to find the loving home and spoiling she deserves for the rest of her life! Currently weighing under 13 pounds, too small to be left outside which clearly she was….But Petunia is resilient and will bounce back and learn to trust and soak up the love and comforts she craves. Petunia's amazing foster had the following to say about her: Petunia is a sweet little baby who just wants to be your lapdog and shadow. She is good with other dogs and wants to play with them. She is a little fearful of others walking by on the street but has done great with leash and potty training. She was neglected for so long but never lost sight of the pleasure of human connection. She is super gentle, super soft, likes to wear clothes, and is quite silly when she plays. She would be an amazing family dog, and will make anyone with a lap happy!

Story
My name is Duke! When I first came to Milo, I was pretty matted and scared. But now I’m feeling so happy, safe, and brave, it’s like a whole new me. I absolutely love going for walks and hikes (I can even hike off leash!). People always stop and tell me how cute I am, and once they meet me, they say I’m really sweet too, which makes my tail wag extra hard because it’s true, I’ve got a whole lot of love to give. Sometimes when I’m out with my foster mom I give her a little smile just because I’m so happy. She says I have a heart of gold, and I think she might be right. I love other dogs, and I like people too, I just need a moment to know they’re safe, and then I’m all in with cuddles and affection. I sleep nicely in my crate at night, love being outdoors, and have the best time playing with my dog friends. Now that I feel safe and confident, I’m ready to find my forever home, hopefully with a dog sibling who likes to play as much as I do. Apply today to meet me, I'd love to come home with you!

All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.Adoption Fee: $800 Caterpillar’s story starts the way no dog’s story ever should. Someone left him in the middle of a field. Alone. No homes nearby. No people. No safety. Just an 8-10 month old puppy abandoned in the middle of nowhere, somehow expected to survive on his own. And then came the foxtails. Hundreds of them. They were embedded all over his tiny body. In his skin. In his ears. In his eyes. More than 20 were buried in the roof of his mouth and even in his tongue. He has endured THREE surgeries to remove them all. THREE. Imagine how much pain this little guy must have been in while still somehow wagging his tail and looking at humans with hope. And somehow… despite every reason in the world not to trust people… Caterpillar still loves them. That’s the part that gets you. After painful procedures, uncomfortable vet visits, and having foxtails literally scraped from behind his eyeballs, this sweet little dog still gave the vet kisses. Because Caterpillar is not angry at the world. He is just grateful someone finally loved him enough to help. Now officially foxtail-free, Caterpillar is finally getting to experience what being a puppy is supposed to feel like. Soft beds.Sunbeams.Walks through the park.Toys.Snuggles on the couch.People who tell him he is safe. And oh, does this little guy LOVE to be close to his people. Caterpillar is the definition of a velcro dog. Wherever you are, he would also like to be there. Working on your laptop? Great. He will be curled up beside you like your emotional support intern. Watching TV? Perfect. He has already claimed a lap. Sleeping at night? Don’t worry — he’s peacefully snoozing nearby in his cozy little bed like an angel who finally knows he doesn’t have to sleep with one eye open anymore. The sweetest thing about Caterpillar is watching him discover joy. At first, he was timid even with toys. He would pick one up, notice someone watching him, and immediately drop it like he got caught committing a crime. But little by little, his confidence has grown. Now he plays fetch, wrestles with tug toys, zooms around the house, and occasionally steals a shoe just because apparently surviving unimaginable hardship still does not exempt him from typical puppy nonsense. And honestly? Good. He deserves to be silly. He deserves to be carefree. He deserves to act like a puppy instead of a survivor. Caterpillar is wonderfully gentle and easygoing. He gets along beautifully with other dogs and has been incredibly respectful with the foster’s cat. During a stressful car ride, he even sat beside the cat’s carrier as if trying to comfort her. Which honestly feels very on-brand for him. He has the kindest little soul. He is playful without being wild, affectionate without being demanding, and has mastered the art of matching your energy. Want to go for a walk? Amazing. He’s ready. Need to work all day? Perfect. He will happily nap nearby in a sunbeam like a tiny retired grandpa. And because the universe finally decided this boy had suffered enough, his adorable non-shedding coat is already growing back beautifully after being shaved down for treatment. Sometimes he accidentally wriggles both front paws out of his sweater and walks around wearing it like a tiny dress with his tail wagging behind him, completely unbothered and ridiculously cute. Caterpillar has every reason to be fearful.Every reason to shut down.Every reason not to trust again. But instead, he wakes up every day choosing love. And whoever adopts him is not just getting a dog. They are getting one of the gentlest, most resilient little souls we have ever met. Some dogs leave paw prints on your floor. Caterpillar leaves them on your heart.May 16, 2026, 2:15 pm

All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.Adoption Fee: $800 Tiramisu is the kind of dog that makes people fall in love embarrassingly fast. Like… “I was just looking” turns into “Where would we put her bed?” in approximately seven minutes. This 1-2 year old Shih Tzu/Toy Poodle mix has a gorgeous non-shedding coat, the softest little face, and eyes that somehow make you feel like she completely understands you. She looks like a tiny stuffed animal that accidentally came to life and decided her full-time job is being close to her people. And honestly? She is REALLY good at it. She is affectionate, snuggly, deeply loyal, and happiest curled up beside the people she loves. If you are sitting down, Tiramisu would very much like to be involved. Preferably touching you. Preferably under a blanket. Preferably forever. This girl wakes up around 6am, runs outside to handle important morning business, accepts her required backside scratches like the tiny royalty she is, then heads to the kitchen to investigate breakfast opportunities. After that? Zoomies. Tiny bursts of joyful chaos. Then she settles beautifully into her favorite daily activities:following her person around the house, supervising office work, stealing the other dog’s bed, and staring thoughtfully out the window like she’s reflecting on life choices. And honestly? She takes her emotional support job VERY seriously. Tiramisu is the definition of a velcro dog once she bonds to you. She is happiest curled beside you on the couch, sleeping next to you in bed, sitting beside your desk while you work, or quietly following you from room to room making sure you do not accidentally experience a single moment alone ever again. But here’s the thing that makes her special:you don’t immediately belong to Tiramisu. You must first be evaluated. This dog has standards. When she first meets new people or dogs, she likes to observe. Assess. Gather evidence. Quietly determine whether you are worthy of her friendship. But once you earn the official Tiramisu Seal of Approval? That’s it. You are HER person. And honestly, it feels like winning an emotional support lottery. She bonds deeply and loyally. The kind of dog who looks at you with such genuine love that you suddenly start wondering if you’ve ever truly been appreciated before this moment. Tiramisu also has hilariously expressive opinions. Doorbell rings? ALERT.Plane overhead? Unacceptable.Suspicious neighborhood activity? She would like it formally investigated. She absolutely will bark to notify you of these concerns, but calms quickly once she realizes the world is not, in fact, ending. She enjoys walks and gets excited the second she hears the leash clip because apparently “outside adventures” are now one of her favorite hobbies. Leashes seemed new to her at first, but she has adapted beautifully and now proudly struts around the neighborhood like a tiny local celebrity. She gets along well with respectful dogs and has become close friends with her foster sibling, an older Shih Tzu. Tiramisu can initially be selective with dog friends, but polite dogs who respect boundaries quickly win her over. And while she enjoys walks and playtime, make no mistake:this girl’s true passion is SNUGGLING. Professional-level snuggling. Olympic snuggling. If there is a lap available, she would like to claim it.If there is a blanket nearby, she intends to burrow into it.If you are sitting down for more than four consecutive seconds, she assumes cuddle time has officially begun. Tiramisu was rescued from a home that had compassionately taken in abandoned community dogs and reached out for rescue support in helping find them permanent homes. And while her past may have included uncertainty and transition, she has held onto the sweetest, most loving heart. She would thrive in a home where she can be close to her people and continue blossoming into the adored companion she was always meant to be. Because underneath all the fluff, soulful stares, and dramatic opinions about airplanes is a dog who simply wants to love someone completely. And truly?Dogs like this are rare. Some dogs are cute. Some dogs are funny. Some dogs are cuddly. Tiramisu is the kind of dog people remember. The kind that quietly becomes part of your heart before you even realize what happened. And fair warning:if you meet her, there is an extremely high chance you will suddenly start rearranging your entire life around a tiny non-shedding cloud with emotional depth and excellent hair.May 16, 2026, 2:15 pm

Story
Nirai (means calm) and her 4 friends were all dumped in the streets of Fremont. They were all neglected dirty and very matted. She is more timid and nervous than the others. Needs more time to decompress and feel safe at her foster home. The shelter had her shaved down since she was severely matted (See my before and after picture!). She is now relaxing at her foster home. More photos and info to come as she learns and feels safe. 1/20/26 Foster Home Update: She was scared for the first two days but now she is a completely different dog. She sleeps very well through the night in her crate is potty trained and already knows how to use the doggie door to go to the backyard for her business. She is good with other dogs though she doesn’t play with them much yet. She is also great with my 5-year-old son. She loves human company more than dogs for now. She plays with my son and my husband sleeps on our laps and loves belly rubs. She also seems fine when we leave her at home for a few hours. I’m feeding her home-cooked food and she loves carrots and treats. See how happy she is now in the links below! Watch my video #1Watch my video #2 3/17/26 Foster Home Update: She is good with other dogs but gets a little bit possessive and is attached to me. But overall she is great with small dogs. Ok with big dogs too as I do pet sitting but doesn't like when they are hyperactive. She is the sweetest dog. so easy going fully trained. Whoever adopts her will be lucky to have her. Nirai loves running and playing in the backyard.May 12, 2026, 12:42 am
