ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Introducing Akiko!  Akiko is an adult Shih Tzu who weighs 12 pounds.  She came from a shelter without any knowledge of her background, so we are thinking she is between 8-10 years old.  Akiko is a friendly, bubbly, loving, enthusiastic little girl!  She is just adorable; she looks like a real-life stuffed animal. Akiko has a great personality and has already made many human and furry friends in her foster home.  She gets along with dogs of all sizes and also likes cats.  She is friendly to visitors of all kinds.  Akiko is a quiet girl, she does not bark excessively, only a bit when appropriate.  Her favorite pastimes are being around her people, cuddling on the couch, and going for long walks.  Akiko is interested in being involved in anything that is going on.  She is curious and engaged, vibrant.  This obedient little girl is fully housebroken and sleeps through the night.  She will sleep on her dog bed but prefers sleeping with humans.  Akiko came to us with only one eye, but it is part of her charm and does not slow her down at all.  Akiko does well in the car and does not have separation anxiety, however she would make a great companion for someone who is home most of the time as human interaction and companionship is very important to her.  Is Akiko the perfect pup for you?  She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $300. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.  February 21, 2025, 2:40 pm

Story
Age: 9 years old Gender: Male Breed: Shih Tzu mix Weight: 26 lbs Personality: Yuki is wary of strangers but will warm up to people with a bit of chicken and patience on the human's side. Yuki is a mellow guy who loves to nap next to you and lounge in the sun. Yuki is content to sleep the day away near his person but is also up for playing with stuffed animals and fetching! Yuki does well on leash but is quick to warn you that strangers are nearby. He has some barrier frustration, but is generally very easy going once he has warmed up to you. He loves going for car rides and is a great passenger, although drive thru cashiers may be startled at his sudden alerting. Yuki does well with other dogs. He is polite enough to leave old grumpy dogs alone but will play with young energetic pups. He does not resource guard his person, but does show some food guarding tendencies. It would be safest to feed separately. Needs a home with no children or older children who will treat him with respect and give him space as needed. If you have some chicken and just two days of patience, you will be rewarded with so much love. Yuki is an easy dog, he is crate trained, potty trained, and walks well on leash. He is generally a gentle, mellow guy with great house manners. He has a case of stranger danger, but can be redirected when he is reacting. Yuki loves hanging out with his human, but does well when left alone. He will sleep until you return and greet you wholeheartedly. Yuki takes a little bit to warm up to his person, but once you earn his trust, you will find that no one else will look at you with as much love in their eyes as Yuki.  Education: Good with bathroom and leash training Favorite Activities: Napping, cuddling, chewing tags and eyeballs off stuffed animals, fetch, sun bathing. He's also extremely dog friendly Looking for: A sweet person or family who can give him space, be patient with him and respect/ advocate for his boundaries while he learns to trust humans. Ideally older and respectful kids are ok, and so are dogs. He is currently taking Prozac (~$5-10 for a month's supply, depending on market value and where purchased) to successfully help manage his anxiety around new people.  Adoption Fee: $ 350 ##1592807##

Story
I wake up every morning, and they follow me around. I share my breakfast with them every morning. I let them have a little spoonful of greek yogurt, a couple of blueberries, and an almond or two. I then go off to work, and they play with my wife or kids. When I come home, it was on. They run up to me at the door, jumping with excitement, and they don't stop jumping until I picked them up, and they licked my face over and over. They literally follow me all over the house until I started cooking dinner, then they stand next to me as I am prepping dinner to get treats. I give them little bits of raw veggies. Only the healthy stuff. Toto's favorite snack is baby carrots. For years, I have bought Toto a pound of baby carrots every week. He just hears the word carrots, and he goes nuts. He starts spinning in circles with excitement. Usually, after dinner, we go to the bedroom and wrestle around or play fetch with socks before bedtime
