Please make sure to read the narrative below our pet's photos as you will find a description of our pet with all we know about them, our adoption fee info, and you will find the link to do our online Adoption Application which is the first step in our Adoption Process!     Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Rambo is a ten-year-old male Shih Tzu, surrendered to us when his owner could no longer care for him.  He is a very chunky boy at 28 lbs and should probably weigh more like 20 lbs.  He is very, very sweet and deserves a lot of loving (and some more exercise) for the 2nd half of his live.  Good with other dogs and cats.   Has a big bark for a little dude.  No children please.  May improve on housetraining now that he is neutered and does better during the day when we take him outside a lot but cannot say he is housetrained.   DOG ADOPTION FEE is $100. This Adoption fee includes: mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV & Bordatella Intranasal); de-wormings; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test if over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.  (If a dog is sponsored or has a waived or lower fee, that info will be provided at the point of adoption to the approved adopter).   The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email  (hselco@bellsouth.net)  to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. UPDATE These sweet babies were surrendered to us when their family could no longer care for them. They are adorable 10 week old ShihChi’s. They are 3 lbs of total cuteness. They are spunky, playful and sweet. Their dad is a 6.5 lb  Shih Tzu and Mom is a 10 lb Chiweenie. We do not believe they will be over 10 lbs. They will be ready this week after 2 rounds of vaccines and they are altered. We are taking applications now and reserving them to the perfect forever homes. Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. UPDATE!! Momma Dahlia and her sweet little babies have settled into foster care! Dahlia is a Mini “Doodle” Mix of some sort. She’s around 15 lbs right now but severely emaciated and was terribly matted when she arrived. We believe she likely will top out around 20 lbs and the babies will likely be 15-20 lb adults. They are 6 weeks old now and 2ish lbs. They will be ready at 9 weeks after 2 rounds of vaccines and they are altered. They are sweet and your typical playful little 6 week old babies. Dahlia is a little timid but has made a quick come around in her foster and is doing amazing. She’s good with other animals but an older calmer home likely would be best for her. She will be ready in a few weeks once a healthy weight and can be cleared for spay. We are taking apps now and reserving this sweet family to their perfect forever homes.  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! He was born on September 2nd, 2024, and I actually bought him from my aunt. He hasn’t been neutered yet and hasn’t had his rabies shot,but he has had his parvo shots. he is mostly house-trained. You just need to take him out, as he doesn’t run to the door when he needs to go, but he is learning pretty well. He is very loving and wants to lay beside you when he’s not running around playing. He loves people; he barks at first but after he sees them, he runs to them for affection. He grew up around dogs and cats, so he does very well with them.
