Ari came to us as an owner surrender in July 2023, due to reactivity in his home. He is a 2 year old Shiba Inu that did not get the proper training and structure to truly thrive in his previous home (the only home he has ever known). We have seen an improvement since he arrived. He allows the people here to walk him and actually is very playful with toys. However, he is still weary of being pet if he doesn't know you. Ari needs a home that will continue training, and get him accustomed to new surroundings, and people. Ari takes some time to trust you (can you blame him?), so multiple meet and greets are required (he IS WORTH IT!!). Good with children? Hasn't had a chance to meet children or baby close. 10. Good with other dogs? Getting along well with dogs. However, sometimes he gets very sensitive with bigger sized dogs. 11. Good with cats? Seems curious about street cats, but never chases them. 12. Any type of aggression at any particular situations? He gets alert to bigger or agrressive dogs on his walk or at a dog cafe. 13. Any prey drive? Has not found yet. 14. Energy level? Lv. 5. He is quite independent at a foster home. 15. Leash trained? Yes. 16. Crate trained? Uses crate only on riding a car. Need more training. 17. House trained? Need training. 18. Does the dog bark? How much and when? He rarely barks. He barks once or twice from some loud noise outside the house. 19. Flight risk? No. 20. Does the dog like to be touched? Any issues with touching anywhere specific on the dog’s body? Loves getting petted on his head and body. Does not prefer holding hands, but can tolerate it well. 21. Destroys and chews anything in the house? He makes no accidents at a foster home. 22. Possessive towards food or toys or etc. with humans and/or other dogs? Has some food obsession so he tends to eat fast. Needs to be separated with other dogs when he eats. 23. Any past or present health issues? He has tested positive for heartworm when he was rescued but got negative and heartworm prevention is done. 24. Rescue story? He came to shelter after his spine had bitten by another dog. Although he got a medical treatment at the shelter, suddenly he was unable to use his hind legs, and then he was rescued. He's been taking some medicine for 2 months for treatment. It may be a bit limping but now he has no problem with running and walking. Enjoys tug-of-war, ball play, and nose work, and plays well with people as well as alone with toys. Handling: Dislikes being picked up or handled when not fully comfortable, but is okay with it once a bond is formed. Barking Tendencies: May run away or bark if there are sudden loud noises or unfamiliar people approaching, but does not excessively bark. Escape Tendencies: None. Appetite Issues: None. Walking with a Collar: Does well. Reactive to People or Dogs: Very curious about everything; shows interest in passing people and dogs during walks. Car Behavior: Rides well in the car. Destructive Behavior: Does not destroy things if there are chew toys available, but may play with interesting objects on the floor since she is still a puppy. Meet Kiwi, our lovely dog waiting for her forever home 🐕💖 Personality: Kiwi is friendly with both people and other dogs. She might be a little cautious around strangers at first, but she warms up quickly. She’s currently living with two cats and does well with them as long as they’re welcoming. Kiwi enjoys playfully chasing them around! Potty trained: Kiwi prefers to go outside for her bathroom breaks. Crate training: In progress. Energy level: Kiwi is full of energy! She loves to play with friends and needs three walks a day to keep her happy and healthy. Barking: She may bark at strangers initially, but quickly becomes friendly and affectionate. Walking habits: Kiwi loves going on walks but can get nervous if there’s too much tension on the leash. Car behavior: Kiwi rides in the car daily to daycare and loves hanging out by the window, so it’s best to keep the windows closed for her safety.
