Story
Meet Bella! Bella is a sweet girl, around 55 pounds. Her birthdate is Aug 4, 2015 and we think she is a mix of yellow lab and shiba inu. She is well socialized with people, and often pretends to be a lap dog and loves attention. She roams freely around the house when we are gone (no kennel needed) and the only thing she gets into is the trash if it is left uncovered. She will need a secured fence. She loves the dog park and playing with other dogs. She did cohabitate with a cat and wanted to play with her, but the cat preferred she keep a respectable distance. She got on well with her “step-dog-sibling” when she stayed with the kids at their dad’s house on weekends. She did not grow up around babies and toddlers but she has been doing well with my grandbaby. She would be well suited for a home with school age children or a couple looking for a cuddly critter.

Story
Floss found himself living in a cage after being found wandering as a stray. At approximately nine years old, this frightened guy needed our help. His future was uncertain and time was ticking. No one came for him so we were the lucky ones who whisked him away and into our care! This guy blossomed before our eyes. That sad, scared boy in the kill shelter was replaced with a happy, affectionate, playful pup! This very friendly boy is always smiling! He can be a bit shy at first but warms right up. He would prefer to have companionship and would do best in a home with another dog or person who is home alot. Floss is great with dogs and kids. He seems to get overly excited around cats. All he wants is belly rubs and to know he is loved! He is the total package!!

Story
My name is Morty and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 7-months old and weigh 22 pounds. I came to SIRA from commercial breeding facility that was closing. I was scared and very shy when I first got to my foster home here in Kansas City, MO, but once I realized how much fun it was here I let my goofy, silly side out. There are other dogs here and I love to run and play and tumble and wrestle with them in the securely fenced yard. And the toys! OMG! I never had toys before, but here there are so many different ones to play with and I can’t get enough! I like my foster mom and dad very much. When I’m done playing for a while I like to hang out with them. They’ll hold me and snuggle me and that feels so good! And sometimes I get treats. I love treats. I love all food and I’m a good eater. Actually, foster mom says that I eat like a cow. I’m not sure what that means, but I’ll take it as a compliment. I’m a good boy about going into my crate and staying there quietly when it’s bedtime or when my foster family isn’t home. My perfect forever home will be with a family who will love to play with me and who will enjoy helping me get enough exercise to burn off some of my puppy energy. While I’d LOVE to have a securely fenced yard, I’d probably do okay without one. I’m working on my leash-walking and with some practice, could be a running buddy or enjoy long walks or hikes with my forever humans. If you have another nice dog who likes to run and play hard and wrestle, that would be super. I’m still learning how to tell when other dogs are done playing and when I need to back off, so an older dog who needs space might not be a good match for me. Foster mom thinks I’d I’ll probably do fine as an only dog as long as you have time to play with me. I’m very fast and strong, so my forever family will need to be prepared with extra safety precautions when I’m not inside a secure fence, since I have a pretty high prey-drive and like to bolt to chase just about anything that my cross my path. For that reason, I’m probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. I haven’t met any little humans yet, but foster mom thinks I’d like them. I’m a healthy guy – neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet, silly, high-energy boy to be your best buddy, then look no further! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the process of becoming approved to adopt through SIRA. The application process helps SIRA determine if we might be a good match. Once you’re approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
Who is looking for a sweet, shy girl like me to join your family? My name is Anika and I’m looking for my forever home. My must-haves are a securely fenced yard and another friendly dog at home to help me continue to build my confidence. I’d also love adopters who are experienced with shy/fearful dogs. I’m 4 yrs old – and I weigh 25 lbs. SIRA rescued me from a commercial breeding facility and brought me to my foster home here in Smithville, MO. I was so scared at first – living in a home with humans was new to me. Now that I’m getting used to things, my natural curiosity and bravery are coming out! I like to play with toys and chew them, but if I sense that someone is watching me, I’ll stop and act like I was doing nothing – and maybe flash my best judgmental Shiba side-eye at them for interrupting me (especially if they have a camera – as you can see from some of my photos). I get along well with the other dogs here and even enjoy meeting other dogs in the neighborhood. I especially love snuggling with my newest foster brother, Danny. I love lazy days full of napping and exploring the house and yard. My foster home has two human kids too. I’m skittish around loud noises, but I will let both the 5 year-old and the 7 ½ year-old approach me and pet me. I’m starting to feel comfortable approaching my foster family for attention. I even let the adults hold me, but like many Shibas, will jump down once I’ve had enough. While I’ve been out on leash walks, I really prefer the freedom to run in a securely fenced back yard with no leash. I enjoy chasing the birds and squirrels, but don’t try to climb over the fence. I’m a good girl in the house. I am fully house trained and I keep to myself and don’t do any damage. I’ll tolerate my kennel for short periods of time. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and have room for a sweet, shy girl in your family, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to become an approved SIRA adopter. The approval process helps SIRA learn about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll connect you with my foster family so we can meet.
