Story
Bubbly Blondie requires your attention please! She wants people to know that just because she's broken hearted, she will love you with her whole heart for as long as she has. Blondie is a sassy yet sweet girl. She is a redheaded spitfire! She does not like cats, and can be dog selective. She prefers the company of male dogs. The bigger, the better, as she likes to rough house and tumble around with them. Who doesn't love it when the fellas chase us? Blondie does have cardiac issues. She has been diagnosed with multiple heart issues. She has a grade 5-6 heart murmur. She has a hole in the septum of her heart, and pulmonary stenosis. She will need visits to the cardiologist for medication adjustments and any testing they recommend. We do not know how often she will need to see the cardiologist, visit frequency will be recommended by the the vet. As of right now, surgery is not an option. Because of this, she will not be spayed, and will be adopted with a spay contract should she ever need to go under anesthesia for anything. We are hoping there is a home out there for her that is willing to take on her needs. She deserves to be loved and doted on. She has so so much love to give, and desperately wants a family to share it with. We understand not every home is suitable for her, but please share her to your Facebook page. Never know who may see it and fall in love with her.

Story
My name is Otis and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 1 y.o. and a lover boy! I weigh 15 lbs - okay, I’m small, but I pack a lot of personality into my little self! I came to my foster home here in Kansas City from a commercial breeding facility. I like living in a home with a family! I am shy at first – and will bark and run away from strangers. But once I get used to you, I’ll give you tail wags and airplane ears and lots of kisses and snuggles! Foster mom says I’m goofy. I think it’s because of all the funny sounds I make when I want attention. If one of the other dogs is getting petted, I will make my case that it should be MEEEE instead! Or maybe it's the way I prance around the room with a toy in my mouth whenever she comes in. I get along with dogs that are my size. But big dogs? Well, let’s just say that I get very territorial. I’m good with cats - pretty much just leave them alone. I’m vaccinated and I’m going to be neutered. I’m a healthy boy except I’ve got bad knees. My knee caps are loose – I was born with something called luxating patella. It doesn’t stop me from running really fast. The vet says I don’t need surgery yet, but I might in the future. I’m a smart boy – learning commands and new routines. Like when foster mom calls me over for bedtime. As soon as she says “come here!” I roll over for belly rubs! It’s our favorite game. I get belly rubs and then she picks me up and puts me in my kennel. I’m learning to walk on a leash, but it’s a work in progress. Foster mom promises we’ll keep practicing. I’m not the outdoorsy type anyway. My perfect forever family will have a securely fenced yard and be very careful around open doors, since I’m fast and Shibas are escape artists. It will help if they understand shy dogs. My forever family should be patient, since I’m still a puppy, and continue my training so I'll be a well-behaved adult. If you live in the Midwest and want a snuggly boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to be an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Darla and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m about 4 y.o. and weigh 24 lbs and I live with my foster family in Smithville, MO. I’m smart, sweet, active, healthy and gorgeous! So, your search is over - no need to look further – you’ve found the ideal Shiba!! I’m friendly and love affection from my foster family. I’ll jump into your lap for cuddles any time! I’m a playful, active girl and know how to get my toys out all by myself when I feel like playing. I love to tear them up! I love to run in the fenced yard, especially along the fence with the neighbor’s dogs. I enjoy going for walks and am well-behaved with no pulling on the leash. There are two young boys here in my foster home and I love them both! I also enjoy the other dogs here in my foster home. I haven’t met any cats here yet, so I don’t know what I’d think about them. I’m very curious and will inspect everything. When my foster family leaves the house, I stay in my kennel. I might whine a bit at first, but then I settle down like a good girl. My perfect forever home will be an active one, since I have lots of energy. I’d love to have another dog to play with, but I’d do fine as an only dog (as long as my humans have time to play with me and include me on fun adventures). Okay. Foster mom says that I have to mention that I’m kind-of… outspoken sometimes, so an apartment with shared walls might not be ideal so I don’t disturb the neighbors. I’m a healthy girl, spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for the perfect bff for fun and adventures, here I am! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet. I’m excited about that!!

Story
My name is Ophelia and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 2 y.o. and weigh 20 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Smithville, MO, from a commercial breeding facility where I was born, so I’m still getting used to life in a home with a family. I’m a bit cautious and skittish at first, but once I warm up to you and relax, my curious, affectionate and cuddly side comes out. I like other dogs – I can be shy at first, but they help me feel safe. I sometimes go into my foster sister’s kennel and snuggle with her. I am calm indoors. I’m potty trained and I do well in my kennel when my foster family has to leave the house. I might whine a bit at first, but then I settle down. I’m good around the young children who live here. Their ruckus and sudden movements don’t freak me out. I’m interested in them, but I don’t get too close when they’re being noisy. My favorite thing about living here is when I get to go outside in the fenced yard. That’s when I come alive! I love to run! I’m also sneaky/smart and figured out how to scale the chain-link fence so I could go on an adventure! Foster mom wasn’t happy about that and so now I have to be on a tie-out. I’m still learning how to walk on a leash – I’m not a big fan of being tethered, but foster mom says I’ll be a pro in no time with some practice and patience. My perfect forever home will be experienced with shy/fearful dogs and have a securely fenced yard (that I can’t climb – darn it!) and it will help if my forever family knows how to be careful to prevent escapes. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated – and ready to find my forever family! If you’re interested, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Applying helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
