Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. // Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxYumi is an extremely sweet Shiba who loves to be close to her people and getting pets. She is house trained (only 1 accident on the first day we had her) and is perfectly happy with our resident dog. I tried crating her the first night but it was clear she desperately wanted to sleep in my bed, which she does without a peep all night. On a leash she is getting better at not pulling the whole way, but she is extremely prey motivated so squirrels and other small woodland critters will cause her to lunge in excitement. Yumi doesn’t really bark on her own, but she’ll join in fairly quietly if our resident dog starts barking. I’m fairly sure she would be a perfect dog for someone with shared walls, but as of now she only knows how to go up stairs, we’re working on teaching her how to go down them. Other Shiba traits include stubbornness; she isn’t terribly food motivated so getting her to eat seems like an exercise in gourmet dog meal preparation (lots of high value toppers like fresh dog food for instance). She also loves to make you come get her when she’s outside; she’ll wait by the door, seemingly ready to be let in, and when you open the door she’ll run away. She does this consistently. We haven’t tested her around children or cats, but we’ll report back when we have. All that said, she’s still a little charmer who loves to do “airplane ears” when you call her name sweetly and approach for some scritches. She’ll make any family she is apart of happier. Yumi has primary glaucoma meaning that the eye has a difficult time draining necessary fluid so it builds up and produces a lot of painful pressure in the eyeball. She will be having her right eye removed in January. Her left eye's pressures are normal at this time and we're going to keep her on eye medications to help delay pressure buildup but her left eye will also likely build up too much pressure at some point and need to be removed.https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/glaucoma-in-dogs If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person! If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process. *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //
