Story
Hi! I'm Grandmother Dusty! I'm from Alabama. From her foster: Grandmother Dusty, who we mostly refer to as just Grandma or Dusty, is a sweet, spunky senior lady who is looking for a place to spend her golden years. She is an independent girl who likes to lounge in comfy spots around the house, but as soon as she sees her person moving she's right on your heels. She still has pep in her step and does the cutest dance around the house when she's excited. Dusty has some vision loss and possible hearing loss, which leads to her being a little skittish at first, but she settles in and gains confidence in a new environment quickly. She has done good in public places such as restaurant patios and pet stores as long as she's with her person. She loves to spend time outside in the yard, moseying around the perimeter and basking in the sunshine. Dusty also enjoys short walks and is good on leash. She is calm, quiet, and easy-going, so she would likely do fine in a home with shared walls. Dusty is potty trained and crate trained. She will often nap in her kennel with the door open, but also does great being left out when home alone. She is good with other dogs, but because of her vision loss, high-energy dogs can be a little much for her. Overall, Dusty is a well-rounded girl who is a great dog for someone looking for a low-maintenance companion.

Story
My name is Auburn and I’m looking for my forever home! I am 6 years old and I am being fostered near Minneapolis, MN. I’m looking for a quiet, calm home – preferably one with a securely fenced yard where I can run. I love to run! I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility and I’m still getting used to living in a home with humans. There are so many strange noises and things to experience. I’m still a bit skittish, shy and cautious, but as I get to know you, I’ll want to follow you around to see what you’re doing and be near you. I love affection and once I trust you, I’ll ask you to scritch my head and pet me because it feels so good! I’m an early riser and I wake up ready to go! I love to run around in the fenced yard, and I’ve learned how to walk on a leash too. Quiet streets and trails are my favorite - I get scared of traffic, noises and unfamiliar humans or dogs. I’m a smart cookie and learn new routines and schedules quickly. I’m pretty much totally house-trained, but I’ll need to be watched around rugs and carpets. I’m not fond of being confined in a crate. I’m a sweet girl – foster mom says I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body. I love chewing on things, so it will be good to have appropriate chew toys for me. I get along well with the resident dogs in my foster home. I’m okay with kids and with cats, though little kids might scare me if they make sudden movements or loud noises. I haven’t shown any prey-drive that lots of Shibas have. I like watching the swans in the backyard, but I have never barked at them or tried to chase them. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated and I weigh 18 pounds. Sometimes my eyes water and make tear stains on my face, but the vet says that this is no cause for concern. If you live in the Midwest and would love to have a quiet, sweet friend to be your shadow, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home so they can make sure that we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxMeet Jennie: Your Future Furry Companion!Jennie is a delightful 6-year-old mix of Shiba Inu, Pomeranian, and Husky, and she’s ready to find her forever home! Rescued from a tough past as a backyard breeder in Missouri, Jennie has blossomed into a loving and smart companion. With her striking looks, she turns heads wherever she goes, often stopping traffic with her adorable charm!Once you build a bond with Jennie, she’ll be your biggest fan, demanding pets and cozying up on the couch. She loves her small stuffed toys and is always up for a game of 'bobbing for ice cubes'—it’s one of her favorite summertime activities! Jennie enjoys her daily walks, whether they're short strolls or longer adventures, and she walks well on a leash after a little sniff break. While Jennie is a moderate energy pup, she benefits greatly from daily exercise and would thrive in a home with active people. She’s also well-mannered in the car and loves visits to the local pet store. With her unique personality, she snores quietly and makes the cutest oinking noises that will surely bring a smile to your face!Jennie is currently working on her confidence and trust, and she needs a patient and empathetic owner who can provide a consistent routine. She’s great with dogs of all sizes and is making progress learning how to play with them. However, she would do best in a home without young children; older kids and teenagers who are dog-savvy will be perfect. While Jennie is house-trained with a routine, she doesn’t have a clear “tell” yet, so she might benefit from bell training. She loves to relax and nap in her kennel, though she sometimes needs reassurance during large gatherings.Ideal adopters for Jennie are those who are home often, whether you work remotely, are retired, or have a flexible schedule. A confident dog in the home is a bonus but not required. Jennie would thrive in a loving home where she can build trust and enjoy a structured environment. Are you ready to welcome this sweet girl into your heart and home? Jennie is an absolute joy to be around, and she’s waiting for someone special to give her the love she truly deserves! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxYumi is an extremely sweet Shiba who loves to be close to her people and getting pets. She is house trained (only 1 accident on the first day we had her) and is perfectly happy with our resident dog. I tried crating her the first night but it was clear she desperately wanted to sleep in my bed, which she does without a peep all night. On a leash she is getting better at not pulling the whole way, but she is extremely prey motivated so squirrels and other small woodland critters will cause her to lunge in excitement. Yumi doesn’t really bark on her own, but she’ll join in fairly quietly if our resident dog starts barking. I’m fairly sure she would be a perfect dog for someone with shared walls, but as of now she only knows how to go up stairs, we’re working on teaching her how to go down them. Other Shiba traits include stubbornness; she isn’t terribly food motivated so getting her to eat seems like an exercise in gourmet dog meal preparation (lots of high value toppers like fresh dog food for instance). She also loves to make you come get her when she’s outside; she’ll wait by the door, seemingly ready to be let in, and when you open the door she’ll run away. She does this consistently. We haven’t tested her around children or cats, but we’ll report back when we have. All that said, she’s still a little charmer who loves to do “airplane ears” when you call her name sweetly and approach for some scritches. She’ll make any family she is apart of happier.  Yumi does require twice daily eye drops to help treat early glacoma.
