Story
Floss found himself living in a cage after being found wandering as a stray. At approximately nine years old, this frightened guy needed our help. His future was uncertain and time was ticking. No one came for him so we were the lucky ones who whisked him away and into our care! This guy blossomed before our eyes. That sad, scared boy in the kill shelter was replaced with a happy, affectionate, playful pup! This very friendly boy is always smiling! He can be a bit shy at first but warms right up. He would prefer to have companionship and would do best in a home with another dog or person who is home alot. Floss is great with dogs and kids. He seems to get overly excited around cats. All he wants is belly rubs and to know he is loved! He is the total package!!

Story
My name is Morty and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 7-months old and weigh 22 pounds. I came to SIRA from commercial breeding facility that was closing. I was scared and very shy when I first got to my foster home here in Kansas City, MO, but once I realized how much fun it was here I let my goofy, silly side out. There are other dogs here and I love to run and play and tumble and wrestle with them in the securely fenced yard. And the toys! OMG! I never had toys before, but here there are so many different ones to play with and I can’t get enough! I like my foster mom and dad very much. When I’m done playing for a while I like to hang out with them. They’ll hold me and snuggle me and that feels so good! And sometimes I get treats. I love treats. I love all food and I’m a good eater. Actually, foster mom says that I eat like a cow. I’m not sure what that means, but I’ll take it as a compliment. I’m a good boy about going into my crate and staying there quietly when it’s bedtime or when my foster family isn’t home. My perfect forever home will be with a family who will love to play with me and who will enjoy helping me get enough exercise to burn off some of my puppy energy. While I’d LOVE to have a securely fenced yard, I’d probably do okay without one. I’m working on my leash-walking and with some practice, could be a running buddy or enjoy long walks or hikes with my forever humans. If you have another nice dog who likes to run and play hard and wrestle, that would be super. I’m still learning how to tell when other dogs are done playing and when I need to back off, so an older dog who needs space might not be a good match for me. Foster mom thinks I’d I’ll probably do fine as an only dog as long as you have time to play with me. I’m very fast and strong, so my forever family will need to be prepared with extra safety precautions when I’m not inside a secure fence, since I have a pretty high prey-drive and like to bolt to chase just about anything that my cross my path. For that reason, I’m probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. I haven’t met any little humans yet, but foster mom thinks I’d like them. I’m a healthy guy – neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet, silly, high-energy boy to be your best buddy, then look no further! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the process of becoming approved to adopt through SIRA. The application process helps SIRA determine if we might be a good match. Once you’re approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Danny and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m one year old and came to my foster home here in St. Louis from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. Foster mom calls me a goof-ball. I love running around and tossing my toys in the air. Toys are my jam. I love chew toys and Kongs with yummy stuff frozen inside for me to lick. I love de-stuffing stuffed animals and even stealing socks. I like to hang out with my toys in the evenings, but if I’m left on my own for too long, I make my own fun doing something I shouldn’t, like shredding a dog bed. Another thing I love is going for walks. I’m very curious, which sometimes outweighs my shyness and fear of all of the people and sounds. I love meeting other dogs and taking my sweet-ol’ time to do my business. Loud noises like big trucks and school buses still spook me, but I’m getting used to meeting new people - I used to get so scared, Once I get to know you and trust you, I love attention and petting. I’ll give you kisses and if you stop petting me, I’ll poke you with my paw. Foster mom says I am smart. I’m getting the hang of potty training and I know commands like Paw, High-Five, and Wait. My perfect forever home would have patient people who will spend time with me and offer gentle reassurance as I adapt to a new environment. Experience with Shibas or shy/fearful dogs would be great. Small kids are probably not a great match, since they can be loud and unpredictable. I haven’t met any cats, but I chase birds and squirrels, so they might not be the best match for me. I live in a busy apartment complex now and foster mom thinks that I’d thrive in a quieter setting with a securely fenced yard. I’m good with other dogs and I’d love so much to have another dog-friend to play with help show me the ropes. I’m a healthy boy – neutered, vaccinated, and weighing around 30 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, goofy boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you and your home so they can make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Sara and I’m looking for my forever home. I am a tiny 3-yr-old – only 12 lbs. I’ve lived in Olathe, KS, with my foster family since SIRA rescued me from a commercial breeding facility. Things were bad there, but life is great now! The fenced yard here is my happy place! I love to run fast, play with the other dogs, or just roll around on the ground. I’m also a garden helper. I’ll wrestle with the garden hose when it gets unruly and dig new holes for you in the garden bed. When I’m happy, my tail gets wiggly and I have an adorable play-bounce! I love toys – the bigger the better! My favorite is a giant carrot that I drag around. I collect toys, so, if you're looking for one, you’ll probably find it in my crate. I like taking walks with the other dogs and I’m well-behaved on leash. When I’m inside, I like quiet, private spots, like my crate. But I’m always excited to see my foster family when they come home. There's so much good food here! Where I came from there wasn’t enough to eat. My foster family uses snuffle mats, slow-feeder bowls and puzzle toys so I don’t gobble too fast. If I think dinner is late, I scratch the empty puzzle toy to tell them! I was shy at first, but now I trust my foster family. I approach when I want to be petted or brushed, which feels so nice. I'm cautious of strangers and will bark and keep my distance at first. But I am curious and love to watch what they're doing. I have not met any cats or human kids. My ideal forever home will be patient as I learn to trust. I am very sweet, but maybe not a cuddler. I’d love another friendly dog to learn from and a securely fenced yard. I’m not fond of commotion or being startled, so a quiet, calm home without little kids would be best. When I was first rescued, I went to a big shelter. I was so scared there that I had seizures! I haven’t had any since coming to my foster home. Despite my rough past, I am healthy - spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Story
My name is Danny and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a young guy – just 1 yr. old – and I weigh 30 lbs. I’m a playful boy and I came to my foster home in Smithville, MO, from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. There are other dogs who live here – both older girls – and I love to play with them. Foster mom says that they’re doing a great job of teaching me manners. I haven’t been around other male dogs and I haven’t met any cats, but I love to chase the birds, bunnies and squirrels in the fenced yard here. There are human kids who live here (ages 5 to 7 ½) and I’m good with them. I’m a bit cautious, but interested. I like it when they pet me! I’m a smart boy and a very good boy. I’m learning how to walk on a leash and I get excited when I hear “let’s go for walkies!” I am house trained and not destructive. My foster family trusts me to have free run of the house while they’re gone with no problems. I love pretty much everything about my new life. Except thunderstorms and fireworks. They scare me! The things I like best are chewing on my toys, running laps and chasing critters in the yard, cuddling with the other dogs who live here, and pestering the humans to pet me! I’m a goofball and foster mom says I’m an entertainer. She caught me recently doing an interpretive dance to entertain one of my resident dog friends when she was in her crate. My perfect forever family will have at least one other nice dog in the house so that I can continue to learn and thrive. Because of my natural prey drive, cats and other small pets are not recommended. If you have experience with shy dogs, that would be great and you’ll need to understand how to guard against escapes, since I love to run and chase outside. I am a healthy boy - neutered and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and want to add a happy, playful, good boy to your family, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to become an approved SIRA adopter. The approval process helps SIRA learn about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll connect you with my foster family so we can meet. I can’t wait!
