Story
Banjo is a sweet, loving pup who enjoys playing and running. He’s friendly, good natured, and gets along well with kids. Training: Banjo is pad-trained, so he’s great at using a designated indoor bathroom spot—perfect for apartment living or busy schedules! He knows several commands as he was trained while he was a puppy (but may have forgotten several commands since we don't normally use some of them). Ideal Home: Banjo would thrive in a home where he can enjoy companionship and have space to play. Whether you're looking for a snuggle buddy or a playful friend, he’s ready to bring joy to his new family. Rehoming Reason: Due to a change in living circumstances (having young children), we’re looking for a loving new home for Banjo where he can get the attention he deserves.

Story
Sunny is an excitable, playful, and highly social dog. He is great with other dogs, especially those who want to get into some rough-and-tumble play with him. He's about a year and four months old, and we adopted him a few months ago from the pound. We are looking to re-home him because upon adopting him, we recognized that his energy needs are simply higher than we are able to offer as owners (his behavioral presentation was quite different at the pound, and his previous owners had unfortunately left no notes about him at home). Sunny is curious, independent, loves games and puzzles, and loves to play. He would be excellent in a home with a yard where he can do some sniffing enrichment, or in a home with another dog who loves to playfully roughhouse a bit. We're listing him with a $0 adoption fee because it's very important to us that he's in a good home, and we want to make that as easy as possible for him and you. If you like a sweet and energetic dog, Sunny is the one for you!

Story
My name is Brad and I’m looking for my forever home. I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I lived my whole life, making puppies. I’m a gentle, easy-going 9-y.o. guy. I was pretty scared at first, and I’m still cautious, but my curiosity and affectionate side still wins. Foster dad says he’s proud of me – on the very first day that I arrived, I got brave enough to approach him to say hello. I just looked up into his eyes and I think he melted! Aw, shucks. Yeah, I’m a good boy – I don’t get into trouble or have accidents. There are so many new things I’ve never experienced here, and noises and commotion can still spook me. But I like to follow the humans around and watch what they’re doing. And when foster dad sits quietly in his recliner, I’ll boop his hand to ask for some scritches. And I’ll look up into his eyes to make sure he knows how thankful I am. There are other dogs here and I like them. I’m also good with the human kids. If the 3-year-old gets too loud, I just find a quiet spot away from the racket. The 13-year-old is cool. I like to sit by her when she’s sitting at her desk. My perfect forever home would be a calm and laid-back family. I’ll need a securely fenced yard since I’m still learning how to walk on a leash. If you have other nice dogs, that’s fine. I’ve never met a cat, but foster dad thinks I’d be fine with a dog-savvy kitty. You’ll need to be careful to prevent escapes, since like many Shibas, I’m interested to explore what’s on the other side of an open door. I’m healthy – neutered and vaccinated and weigh 34 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet, calm, all-around nice dog to melt your heart and be your very best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we’ll be a good match. Then once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Lumi and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m still a puppy – I’ll turn 1 y.o. in August. I’m tiny – currently only 12 lbs. I came to my foster home in Evansville, IN, in December after being released by a breeder. I’m very sweet and timid at first, but I’ve found my voice here at my foster home and will tell you when I want attention or if I need to a potty break. I am learning to love snuggling with my foster mom and I love to play and get the zoomies. My silly, sassy side has started to emerge! I love being with other dogs. They help me feel safe and confident. I’m very gentle - good with cats too! Since living in a home with humans is new, I’m still learning to trust and am very cautious and spook easily when there are loud noises or sudden movements. I’m practicing leash walking in the yard here, since it’s still kinda scary for me to walk in the neighborhood. Since I’m still skittish, I’d do best in a home without little kids, but older kids would probably be fine. My forever home must have patient people who understand if I’m scared in new situations and who can help me build confidence. I will need a securely fenced yard to play in and another friendly dog to help show me the ropes. I am spayed and fully vaccinated. I have a grade 4 heart murmur (caused by a VSD – ventricular septal defect), so I got a full evaluation by a specialist at Purdue. The cardiologist said that I don’t need any medication or special diet because defects like mine (a hole between the heart chambers) often close on their own over time. The vet also noticed that I once had a fracture in one of my legs. It doesn’t bother me now or slow me down since it’s healed. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, beautiful, and silly little girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you so they can tell if we’d be a good match. Once approved, they’ll connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Zeus and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 5 years old and a friendly, playful boy who loves going for walks and watching out the window. I came to my foster home here in Columbus, IN, from a shelter. I was kind-of a mess, with missing fur and bad skin issues. SIRA helped me get the care I needed and now I’m a healthy and handsome 33-lb boy. I’m neutered and vaccinated and my skin is much better - I take Benadryl to keep it clear. I have an inverted nipple, which isn’t a big deal. Foster mom cleans it daily so it doesn’t get infected. I am outgoing and love to meet new people. I love baths – they make me feel so good! And I love to play and get the zoomies. Foster mom says I’m goofy. She says I have a goofy expression on my face that makes me look like I’m a bit confused. I’m working on house-training. I’m learning but sometimes get distracted outside and forget to go potty. I wear a belly band inside to prevent accidents. My perfect forever home would be one with patient humans and a window I can watch from and sometimes bark at the things that pass by. I haven’t met any little human kids yet, but I like older kids. I am kind-of picky about living with other dogs. I’d really love to be an only dog and not have to share my human’s attention. I like to chase cats and outside critters, so I’m probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet and silly boy to be your best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps confirm that we’d be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet.
