Story
Ingrid Gwen arrived to us after being transferred from Calumet City Animal Control, and she’s now ready to start the next, happiest chapter of her life. 🎭 Personality Ingrid Gwen is equal parts spunky and sweet. She’s got that classic Shiba confidence, a hint of sass, and a whole lot of charm. Whether she’s prancing around showing off her fox-like looks or giving you her “are you ready to play yet?” side-eye, she’s guaranteed to make you smile. 🐾 Favorite Activities - Zooming around like she owns the place - Investigating every interesting scent within a 10-foot radius - Tossing toys into the air and celebrating like she just won a championship - Sitting nearby (but in a very “Shiba on her own terms” way) to supervise your daily tasks 👩‍👧 Ideal Home Ingrid Gwen would love a family who enjoys her independent spirit and quirky sense of humor. She thrives with people who: - Appreciate a dog who is smart, curious, and a little cheeky - Can give her playtime, enrichment, and patience as she settles in - Understand that Shibas do best with structure and calm guidance 🧡 Why You’ll Love Her Ingrid Gwen is the kind of dog who keeps life interesting, joyful, and full of personality. She’s loyal on her own terms, playful when the mood strikes, and absolutely unforgettable. If you’ve ever dreamed of having a tiny fox-like companion with style and sparkle—this girl is your match. 🏠 Ready to Meet Ingrid Gwen? She’s ready to charm you in person! Come meet this clever, playful Shiba Inu and see if she’s the missing piece of your family.

Story
About Me: Name: Vanity Breed (or best guess): Shiba Inu Approximate Age: born 12/18/18 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 18 lb Adoption Fee: $495 Requirements: Patient adopter, fenced yard and another dog is best Why In Rescue: puppy mill survivor Profile:   Vanity came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use her for breeding.  Vanity gets along with other dogs her size and is learning to put her puppy mill days behind her.  She is very quiet in her kennel, and keeps her kennel clean so that helps with housetraining.  She will need work on walking on a leash and on housetraining as she had never lived in a home.  Vanity does have one bad habit and that is fence scaling - so she can NOT be left unattended in a fenced area, she needs to be on a leash.  She can climb a 5-6 ft chain link fence in no time.  If interested in Vanity or one of our other dogs, please fill out the pre-adoption application. Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house.  They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are.  They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm.  A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases.  We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS March 7, 2026, 6:42 pm

Story
My name is Nadia and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m still a puppy – I just turned 1 in October. I came to my foster home in Sussex, WI, when my owner could no longer care for me. I’m a healthy girl –currently 21 lbs of smarts, sass, and sweetness, according to my foster mom. I am having a lot of fun here at my foster home. I love being outside and have lots of energy when we go for walks – I like going fast and I can pull – especially when I see a squirrel or other critter that I want to chase. Yep, I’m a typical Shiba in many ways. I can be willful and I play hard, with all of the ferocious sound effects that come with it. I’m an expert toy-destroyer and shoe thief, and my side-eye is on point. I’m super smart and learn quickly, like how to sneak a treat off of a human plate or counter top if left unattended and in my reach. I’m also a master escape artist (I don’t like being confined by gates or crates). But I didn’t get the memo that said Shibas were supposed to be reserved and aloof. I love to cuddle and am super affectionate. I even sleep under the covers with my foster parents. I get sad and worried when my people leave the house, but am okay if there is another dog or person there to comfort me. And when they come back home (even if it’s only been 20 minutes) I throw a party with barking, butt wiggles, and leaping! My perfect forever home will have a securely fenced yard where I can run and play and a family who understand how to be careful around open doors and gates to prevent escapes. I’d love to have another nice dog to play with, as long as they don’t mind me stealing their toys or their spot on the sofa. I will stand up for myself if needed too! I have met cats and like to play with them. I haven’t met any human kids, so I don’t know what I’d think of them, but foster mom thinks I’d be okay with older kids. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and potty trained. If you live in the Midwest and want a fun, snuggly girl like me to add sparkle to their life, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Sadie and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m a playful, friendly, happy 12 y.o. girl and this is my second time being rescued by SIRA. Many years ago, after I was released from a commercial breeding facility, SIRA placed me in a home where I had a mom who helped me learn to love living in home and how to be a dog. We were happy for a long time, but then mom got sick and could no longer take care of me. So I came back to SIRA and to my foster home in Sussex, WI. I’m a good girl – I get along fine with other dogs and cats and I’m fine with kids too. I enjoy going for short walks and am a good girl in the house – potty trained and not destructive. When my foster family goes out, I am happy to nap until they come back home. When I first got to my foster home, I had some issues that needed addressing. I had a couple of lumps that the vet removed – thankfully they were both benign. I was very overweight! I’ve lost 12 lbs (currently 37 lbs) since then and I feel much better and am able to be more active. I take pain meds for my joints and I have allergies, which are managed with prescription food and some meds for seasonal flare-ups. Otherwise, my needs are pretty simple: my favorite things are nice places to nap, popcorn, a few toys to play with and when my family comes home after being out. I’m not too fond of slippery wood/tile floors, but honestly, that’s my only beef. I’d love a forever family that will help me continue to lose weight and manage my allergies so I can live my best life. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for an easy-going and sweet companion to be by your side, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can confirm if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
