Fill out an application to learn more! Tom is a 8 month old Shiba Inu x Jindo mix looking for his Jerry! Tom was rescued off the streets of South Korea by our amazing partner rescue and was taken to their shelter. He flew across the ocean and landed in sunny California, ready to live his best life in the USA! Tom has been having a blast with his foster family but he’s ready for his next adventure: finding his forever home! For those who know and love the Shiba breed, you won’t find a more loyal companion to tackle life with than Tom. We expect he will be in the 30-40 pound range when he reaches his adult weight. Don’t delay, adopt Tom today!    Tom is a sweet, loving, playful, and sensitive boy who is super excited to find his lucky forever people! Like most Shiba’s, Tom is initially shy and wary of new people, but once you earn his trust you are his best friend for life. He will be a dog who slowly shows you more of himself over time and won’t be in your face immediately. He would thrive with a resident dog to help show him the ropes. Tom is super smart and showed off his skills at solo fetch within hours of arriving at his foster home. He would thrive in training or agility classes and strives to please his people. As the days have gone by, Tom’s happy and affection-loving personality has been bursting out of him. He loves to lean against his foster mom or approach her with a wagging tail when he is ready for scratches. If he decides you haven’t pet him enough, he will nose at your hand until you continue showering him in love. He’s like a cat in the sense he would much rather approach you for love than the other way around. However, as he settles in we see that changing! Tom would love an active family ready to explore all the nature California has to offer. In fact, once you get him outside it’s hard to get him to come home! He will happily check out the trails, the beaches, and the parks as long as you are by his side.  Tom starts his morning around 7 AM and keeps himself occupied with his toys until his foster mom wakes up at 7:30. He hops up on the bed to give out some morning kisses before heading outside for potty and play. He is on the skinnier side so he is getting extra kibble and some special snacks during his meals. Once he eats, he heads out on his morning 2 mile walk with his foster sibs. He loves the outdoors and would happily spend hours exploring nature and checking out the world around him. He loves playing with his foster siblings and keeps himself occupied while his foster Mom gets some work done. Tom does well when he gets an evening walk but still loves to show off his fabulous puppy zoomies. Once you get him back inside for the night, he settles into his bed and drifts off to sleep.  Tom currently lives with several dogs of varying sizes. Another dog in the home is key in the early days of earning his trust, as he takes his cues from his more confident siblings. Tom will need continued socialization (especially with people) and training to ensure he is a well-behaved and trusting adult. He will also need continued work on walking “well” on the leash, but he does not lack enthusiasm for the outdoors. He is super smart so we have no doubt he will shine when he is given the chance. He is also housetrained. Tom is an option for a foster-to-adopt situation as he needs time to let you win him over. If you’re ready for your next adventure, hit the trails with Tom! Tom Sawyer would love to have a doggy buddy in his new home. He is an option for those who have some prior dog experience. He is an option for children over the age of 8.November 9, 2024, 2:15 pm
