Story
Buddy is a spirited, loyal 5-year-old, 70-pound pit mix who has been patiently waiting for his forever family since September 2021. His journey has been full of near-misses. Buddy was first found as a stray, and while the good Samaritan who found him hoped to keep him, Buddy didn't get along with the resident dog, so he was brought to the shelter. Not long after, Buddy's original family recognized him from a shelter post. They even shared a sweet video of Buddy in their yard, happily popping bubbles with a young child, but despite this connection, they didn't come to bring him home. Since then, Buddy has remained hopeful, eager to find a family who sees him for the loyal and loving companion he is.In his time with us, Buddy has made huge strides in his training, graduating from the Puppies for Parole program. There, he worked on house training, crate training, basic commands, and leash skills. He also became muzzle-conditioned, which helped him gain confidence around other dogs in a controlled environment. Buddy has a playful and energetic personality, making him an ideal match for an active household. He loves tug-of-war, outdoor adventures, and would thrive in a family that enjoys walks, hikes, or even jogs. When heading out on a leash, Buddy might pull at first, but he quickly settles into a relaxed, loose-leash pace. In his kennel, he shows his tidy side by keeping his space clean, hinting at a natural habit for order and structure that could make him an easy fit for home life. As a dog who enjoys being the center of attention, Buddy would do best as the only pet in the home, where he can fully bond with his new family and shower them with loyalty and affection.Buddy's ideal family will appreciate his enthusiasm and enjoy staying active alongside him. A family that can continue his training, provide structure, and embrace his fun-loving spirit would be the perfect fit. This resilient "Forget-Me-Not" dog has been waiting for far too long, but he hasn't given up on finding his family. If you're looking for an adventure partner with a big heart and boundless love, Buddy is waiting to meet you. His adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor. Story
Meet Augie, a nearly 3-year-old pit mix with an irresistible personality and a heart as big as his energy level! This happy-go-lucky boy has been with us on and off since June 2022, each time returning with a smile and his signature wagging tail. Augie's enthusiasm for life is contagious-he loves everyone he meets and greets people with warmth and a big grin. Playful and affectionate, Augie is a natural people-lover and a snuggler at heart. You couldn't ask for a better companion. While his heart of gold has won many over, Augie's high energy has been a challenge for previous adopters. He has more pep than most people know what to do with! But that's no obstacle for the right family-he just needs an active, structured lifestyle to bring out his best. Augie recently graduated from the Puppies for Parole program at Jeff City Correctional Center, where he passed his mock Canine Good Citizen test with flying colors. His handler raved about his trainability, noting that he thrived on the daily structure of 5-mile runs and a consistent routine. Augie's energy didn't fade after those miles, though, so he's looking for a home that's ready to show up for him every single day. Willing to put in the work that he is.A fenced yard would be ideal for Augie to burn off some of his energy, whether you're throwing a ball or playing with him outside. Although he enjoys the company of other dogs, he'd be happiest either as the only dog or with a canine sibling who shares his high energy level. He's highly trainable. He picks up new skill very quickly. He's proven time and again that with the right direction, he's a fabulous companion who will reward structure with loyalty, playfulness, and love.Augie needs a committed owner who will make him a part of their daily routine, keeping him active and giving him the attention and direction he thrives on. If you're an active person or family ready to embrace this incredible, joyful dog, Augie is here waiting to share his boundless energy-and his boundless heart-with you. His adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor. Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Black Weight: 58.8 Age: 2yrs 11mths 1wks

Story
Charity was abandoned in the parking lot at Dogwood Shelter when she was very pregnant. After about a week here, she had her puppies, 11 of them! Most of them have been adopted, but she is still here. Her favorite pastime? Going for walks! While she does have a bit of a pulling habit, we're working on it together. With just a little guidance, she's learning to walk more calmly on the leash, and I can see her progress each day. When it's playtime, Charity comes alive! She absolutely loves her frisbee. Watching her leap and bound in the play yard is a joy; she's so enthusiastic and playful. It's clear that she's got a playful spirit and a zest for life. After some play, she's always ready for those much-loved belly rubs, and trust me, she will roll over to ensure you know just how much she enjoys them! Charity does have a strong personality, which means she needs to be the only dog in her forever home. She tends to come on a bit strong with other dogs, but with the right family, she will flourish. Her loyalty and affection are boundless. Primary Color: Tan Weight: 59.2 Age: 3yrs 4mths 2wks
