Meet Kate, Kevin, Harry, Heather, and Marv! These cuties are 4 month old Shetland Sheepdog mixes who were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster county due not being sold quickly enough. Sadly, this happens all the time due to the alarmingly high amount of dogs that puppy mills are constantly producing. It is simply easier for them to give the older puppies up as their breeding mothers are producing litter after litter, meaning there is no shortage of younger puppies for them to focus on selling at a higher price These sweethearts are understandably shy and nervous at first, but are doing a great job learning to trust new people! As with all dogs we save from puppy mills, they will need a family who is understanding and prepared to work through a period of transition with them as they learn to live in a house and around people. They will need time to trust their new family before working on training, such as house training. This should go without saying, but we require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Puppy mill dogs tend to do best in a home without young children as well (10+), though this determination is made on a case by case basis. These are high energy dogs! Interested families should be up to the task of providing them the ample training and exercise that they require.
