Story
Oh my, did sweet Shena steal our hearts in seconds!! This girl has the looks, the personality, the leash skills, the house manners, the car manners, and the great cat and dog skills! I mean come on, what more can you ask?! Shena is an AKC registered Shetland Sheepdog. Her dad got her as a puppy, and he recently passed away. She was brought to us with the hopes of finding her a home where she can be loved the same way and let her retire and live out the rest of her life. Shena is 11 years old and weighs 25 lbs. Don’t let that age full you though. She still jumps up on the bed, in the car, trots around the house, and has a huge smile. What do Shena’s days look like? Well, she is currently being fostered by a friend of her dads who is a senior and she says she is the easiest girl ever! She uses the doggy door and is completely house trained. Shena lives with a cat, and they are absolute best friends! They will sleep together on the couch, the dog bed, the crate, or any area that they can. Literally best friends. When we tested her with one of the cats at the rescue, she was able to hang out with him fir 30 minutes and she acted like she had known him her entire life. Shania is great on leash; she isn’t one for long long walks, but she does enjoy strolls down the neighborhood. She walks leisurely next to you and watches everyone and everything without any reactivity. Let’s talk about dogs! Shena met some of our small and large dogs. What great introductions. On and off leash. She greets very gently and appropriately, stepping away on her own and coming back to sniff. She quickly was able to coexist in the rooms with the dogs, share treats, lay on beds, couches, and just relax on the floor. We feel she would be able to go in a home with a large variety of dogs. Due to her age, we don’t thing she should go to a home with a lot of rambunctious dogs that want to play with her. She did not mind them, but Shena is all about retirement right now and we feel she has definitely earned it! Shena was affectionate with all of the people she met. She has been around children all of her life as well. We do not have pictures or videos of her with children, but we can get some upon request. Are you ready to bring Shena into your home and make her retirement wishes come true?! Application: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/67b4dfc68a88aa50800db734 Questions? Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs, and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30-day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non- profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
