Story
Meet Jango!
Born Feb 2024, Jango is a young Bichon Frise/Sheltie mix male (neutered) who joined our rescue from a commercial breeder when he remained unsold as an older pup.
Jango has now been neutered, vaccinations all updated, dewormed, microchipped and has been working on his training and socialization before he was ready for his big adoption debut.
His breed mix will require frequent grooming appts, and daily brushing to prevent matted fur. He is NOT hypoallergenic
Jango is seeking a forever home with a suitable canine companion, he loves!!! to run and play with other dogs, and benefits from their companionship to help him feel brave
Jango's foster has the following helpful info to share
Your foster dog's energy level: Medium as in he is very active when outdoors and medium level energy when indoors
LOVES playing with other dogs in a safely fenced yard (NOT dog parks)
He wakes up early but plays with his own toys until I get up to take him out.
I take him for a short 10-20 mins walk between 7-7:30 AM for potty break, I feed him his morning meal and then he plays with his toys a little and then settles down and naps a little.
He has regular potty breaks /walks throughout the day as a younger puppy who cannot hold his bladder for too long yet and we are setting him up for housetraining success, which he is rocking
After his evening meal we play about 15-20 mins and he gets to see our neighbour and his kittie friends. He then goes to take a sleep around 8 PM.
Is your foster dog food motivated? Not really, he is finicky about his treats/food but is improving
Good with dogs Jango is very friendly and respectful to the dogs he meets outside on walks. He may be a little intimitated by big dogs until he gets to know them. He has playdates with other dogs in our rescue and loves to run around and play in their fenced yard.
He is learning to meet new people with more confidence. He was intimidated of people initially when I got him but now he is curiously cautious. He hardly barks at anyone but when I see someone reaching him with lots of enthusiasm, he tends to hide behind me and I slowly encourage people to approach him gently and I also encourage him and make sure he feels comfortable. Usually, the next time he sees the same person, he is a lot more confident and allows them to approach him and pet him.
Good with cats? He is great with cats. My neighbour has 2 cats and he is very friendly towards and wants to be friends with them and play with them. If he notices the cats going way from him, he patiently sits down and let's cats approach him. He is learning not to chase/ run after cats and let them be comfortable around him.
Housetrained? Yes
Crate trained? No I haven't needed to crate train him as he has been very good when I need to go out or overnight uncrated
Please elaborate on your foster dog's leash skills. He is walking on leash but sometimes pulls. He is currently walking left and right side of the walker (me) so we need to work on that.
How would you describe the dog's personality/temperament Extremely sweet, shy at first but becomes friendly soon. He loves to be around his human. Loves outdoor and sun and his true personality and smile comes out when he is outdoors.
Jango does suffer from motion sickness, we are using a remedy for this and hope he outgrows it, but he would not be happy travelling often at this point
Strengths/areas they have improved on: Strengths: quiet, shy initially but very friendly puppy. He is good at following routine if set with patience. He enjoys human company and loves to be pet. He remains quiet through the night even if he is up early. He likes to go outdoors and loves long walks and running.
Jango is well suited for a home with other friendly dogs/cats.
He is a great hiking partner and loves outdoors so a family that may offer him that opportunity for consistent socializing and adventures
He is very quiet and well behaved and quite trainable. He loves to play so ideally a house where he gets access to lots of toys and preferably a fenced backyard where he can run and play freely. He is a love bug and snuggle buddy and once he has had his adventures and playtime throughout the day, he loves to cuddle up for a quiet evening with his family.
