Story
This Sheltie requires a yard with a secure physical fence with direct access from the house. We adopt locally to the Twin Cities metro. We are not able to coordinate distance placements. Apply at Adoption Shadow is a very sweet girl who was rescued from a puppy mill situation. Her life experiences have been very limited and she is learning to feel safe with people and in a home. She would do best in a smaller family of 1-2 people. She’s a very good eater and loves playing with her foster Collie brother! Age: 1 year (BD 5/30/2023) Size: 22 lbs. Temperament: Shadow is a very energetic and sweet girl, always wanting to play and be silly. Her true personality is starting to shine through as she becomes more comfortable in her foster home. She is still a bit cautious with people but warms up quickly when allowed to approach on her own terms. Recently, she sat under her foster Mom’s chair, touching her legs, while a noisy outside project was happening at her foster home. Fence: A secure physical fence with direct access from the house is required because Shadow is a flight risk. She needs to be on a long line in the fenced yard as she may run when someone approaches her. She is getting much more comfortable in the yard and dances along happily when her foster mom picks up her leash. Shadow is starting to come into the house on her own, sometimes even running to the door and into the house Dogs: Shadow is playful with her Collie brother and can be pushy with him. She needs a tolerant canine playmate for play and security. She frequently initiates play and loves to chase and run in the yard. Cats: Shadow has learned to be respectful of cats in her foster home and not to approach them too closely. Kids: Unknown at this time. Shadow has not lived with children and has not been exposed to children. She will need an adult home or a home with an older child who understands about giving a dog space and waiting for a dog to initiate interaction, and who is responsible enough to close doors to prevent accidental escape. Crate Use: Shadow goes in and out of her crate when the door is open, and is crated at night and when no one is home. She sometimes chews on things, so belongings and hazards should be kept out of reach. Her family will need to allow free access to her crate to allow Shadow to feel safe and to adjust on her timeline. She is now coming out of her crate to get her leash on, and will race outside when the door to the fenced yard is opened. Housetrained: Shadow has had no accidents at her foster home. She goes out on leash to the fenced yard and is learning to come in on her own when the door is opened. Responds to Cues: Our priority is to build trust and to allow Shadow to adjust on her schedule. Shadow is learning to recognize and respond to her name. She watches the other animals and learned how to sit from the cat! Leash Walks: Shadow has learned how to walk on leash in the fenced area at her foster home and happily prances along now. For her safety, Shadow should not be taken on leash walks outside a fenced area for at least 4 weeks, and not before she feels safe with her person and has practiced leash walks within the fenced yard for several weeks. Car Rides: Shadow rides in a crate in the car for her safety. She has had limited car rides so far and has had some motion sickness. This may improve with time, medication, and positive car experiences. Activity Level: Medium energy – Shadow will sleep and rest, and also can be very playful and active. She loves her toys! Barking: Average for a Sheltie. Shadow gets excited for food - spinning and barking. She also gets excited and barks in her crate when something is going on in the house and does some alert barking. Health: No known health issues following veterinary examination, spay, vaccinations and 4DX. Experienced Home: Shadow will blossom in a home experienced in allowing the dog to set the pace for interaction and building trust, and who understands the precautions needed to keep a shy dog safe. Shadow is a very sweet and lively Sheltie with lots of personality and charm. She wants to please and is still learning about being in the house and interacting with humans. She loves playing with other dogs and playing with toys in the house. With time, she will be a very fun and spunky companion. Adoption fee: $450

Story
This Sheltie requires a yard with a secure physical fence with direct access from the house. We adopt locally to the Twin Cities metro. We are not able to coordinate distance placements. Apply at Adoption Sandy is a sweet and shy Sheltie who was rescued from a puppy mill situation. Her life experiences have been very limited and she is learning to feel safe with people and in a home. Once she’s settled into your home, she is very playful and has quite the personality! Age: 1 year (BD 5/30/2023) Size: 17 lbs. Temperament: Sandy is developing confidence and trust. She will move away if approached and will need someone who understands the importance of letting Sandy approach on her terms and her timeline. Fence: A secure physical fence with direct access from the house is required because Sandy is a flight risk. She needs to be on a long line in the fenced yard as she may run when someone approaches her. Dogs: Sandy gets along very well with another Sheltie in her foster home, and would love a canine friend in her new home. She wants to play and will try to get the other dog to engage. She loves to chase and be chased. Sandy would prefer one dog friend. More than that may be overwhelming for her. She has been in the home with 2 other dogs at a time and it seems that she would prefer to play one-on-one rather than with both dogs. Cats: Unknown. Sandy has not been introduced to cats. Kids: Unknown. Sandy has not lived with children and has not been introduced to children. She is wary of children when out on walks. Sandy will need an adult home or a home with an older child (age 10+) who understands about giving a dog space and waiting for a dog to initiate interaction, and who is responsible enough to close doors to prevent accidental escape. Crate Use: Sandy chooses her “kennel” when she feels unsure, and is crated at night and when no one is home. Her family will need to allow free access to her crate to allow Sandy to feel safe and to adjust on her timeline. Housetrained: Sandy has had no accidents at her foster home. Responds to Cues: Our priority is to build trust and to allow Sandy to adjust on her schedule. She responds to the cue “kennel”. Leash Walks: Sandy enjoys leash walks and does not pull. For her safety, Sandy should not be taken on leash walks outside a fenced area for at least 4 weeks, and not before she feels safe with her person and has practiced leash walks within the fenced yard for several weeks. Car Rides: Sandy rides in a crate in the car for her safety. Activity Level: Medium to high. Once she is settled and shows you her personality, Sandy will want to play much of the time with another dog. She enjoys chewing on toys and chasing them but doesn’t bring them back. Barking: Average for a Sheltie. Sandy will become vocal and playful once she’s come out of her shell. Health: No known health issues following veterinary examination, spay, vaccinations and 4DX. Experienced Home: Sandy will blossom in a home experienced in allowing the dog to set the pace for interaction and building trust, and who understands the precautions needed to keep a shy dog safe. Sandy is a sweet and energetic Sheltie with lots of personality. She is learning about being in the house and interacting with humans. She loves playing with her canine friend and with toys in the house. Adoption fee: $450

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Introducing Olivander, a charming older gentleman who’s a perfect mix of dignity, sweetness, and just the right amount of spunk! This unique chihuahua mix, with his petite frame and mini-corgi looks, has been on quite the journey and is now ready to settle into his forever home. Olivander is the type of dog who captures hearts instantly, with his soulful eyes and gentle spirit. He’s happiest when he’s surrounded by soft toys and the company of his humans, whom he adores more than anything. Olivander has a soft spot for children. He lights up when they’re around, bringing them toys as if to say, “Let’s play!” He sees kids as the most delightful companions and loves to curl up beside them, offering his snuggles and his calm, loving presence. With his soft toy collection in tow, he’s always eager to entertain and bring a little joy to the little ones in his life. He’s incredibly gentle and knows just how to win their hearts, quickly becoming a cherished friend and a gentle playmate. Olivander also shares his home with other dogs of all shapes and sizes, and he’s perfectly polite around them. He’s quite happy to coexist but doesn’t feel the need to join in when they’re having a raucous play session, especially the younger pups, who sometimes bring an extra level of chaos to the mix! Olivander prefers his own company or, better yet, the company of his humans, and would be equally content as an only dog. If he does share a home with other pups, his ideal companions are respectful dogs who don’t expect him to play but appreciate a peaceful coexistence. When the weather turns chilly, he’s happy to cuddle up with his canine friends for warmth.  This little guy’s journey has also included a unique medical adventure that adds to his charm and resilience. Olivander  once developed a fistula, creating an unusual opening between his mouth and sinuses. In a memorable moment that showcases his quirky life story, he even sneezed out a tooth! But thanks to Underdog Rescue’s commitment to the health of the dogs, Olivander’s dental issues have been managed with the utmost care, and his mouth is now in excellent shape. He’s ready to enjoy every moment of playtime, cuddling, and soft treats without any worries. Olivander has a lovely, balanced personality that combines independence with affection. He’s not the type to demand constant attention, but he’s always thrilled to be nearby, basking in the presence of his humans. In the evenings, he’s at his most content, finding a cozy spot on the couch or snuggling in a warm bed, especially if there’s a blanket he can burrow into. His calm nature makes him an ideal companion for someone who enjoys quiet, cozy moments. When he’s had his playtime and affection, he’s perfectly happy to lie by your side, offering a soothing, comforting presence that only a dog like Olivander can provide. For those who are looking for a loyal companion without the high-energy demands of a younger dog, Olivander  could be a perfect match. His gentle spirit, combined with his love for children and his polite coexistence with other dogs, make him a wonderful choice for families or individuals alike. He’s the type of dog who would thrive in a calm, loving environment where he can soak up all the love and attention he deserves. Whether he’s proudly carrying his plush toys around, snuggling with the kids, or quietly snoozing beside you, Olivander has a special way of bringing warmth, love, and joy to everyone around him. Now, Olivander is patiently waiting for his forever family—a home that understands his need for a bit of independence, his fondness for soft toys, and his love of cozy snuggles. Could this sweet, resilient boy be the perfect companion you’ve been searching for? Olivander  is ready to share his heart, his gentle spirit, and all the warmth he has to offer with a family who’ll love him just as much as he loves them. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
