Story
Meet Walter!
Walter is approximately 5 ½ months old and weighs 18 lbs. He is expected to weigh between 25–35 lbs when fully grown. Walter is considered a miniature Shar Pei.
He was born with a condition called Carpal Laxity Syndrome, which affects the tendons and forearm muscles. He attended the Up and Running Rehab program for three months, where he received special splints, strengthening therapy, water therapy, and even shock wave treatments on his forearms. We are happy to announce that he has completed therapy and is doing GREAT!
Walter has a fantastic foster who took him to all his appointments. His foster also did a great job with housetraining and crate training. Walter is well-socialized with people, kids, and other dogs.
Now it’s time to find Walter the perfect forever home. He will need someone with Shar Pei experience, who is also prepared for some breed-related issues, such as ongoing skin problems. Also, prepared for SNORING HA! We are looking for a home that has time for a puppy, so he is not crated for the entire workday.
Walter loves to play with other dogs, but he will never be the kind of dog you can take hiking or on really long walks. He enjoys riding in the car and hanging out with his friends. He also likes quiet time, especially chewing on his dog bone. Walter would love the freedom of a fenced-in yard (not electric), however, a fence is not required for Walter-just preferred.
We are looking for local adoption withing a 40-mile radius of Avon Lake, due to our home visit, trial adoption process and follow-up vetting required.
Walter is fully vaccinated and will be scheduled for neuter, once he is six months old. Love-A-Stray will cover the cost of neutering Walter.
If you are interested in Walter, please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure Walter would be a good match for you and your family. We do not do out of state adoptions, due to our trial adoption process. Adoption fee/donation is $600.00
