Wow, what an adventure I've had so far! I was running the streets here in Wallkill, and sadly my family wasn't looking for me even though everyone here at Pets Alive did all they could to find them. So now I'm having fun with the staff and volunteers here, going on walks, learning to give paw, and other tricks, too! Boba came to us from the Yonkers Animal Shelter just a short while ago and already we've seen such a change in him! He was shut down and scared there, avoidant of human contact, but once we took him out of the kennel and brought him to a foster home, he became a whole new dog! Boba is now friendly, loves to be pet and brushed, does great with the other dogs in his foster home, and appears to be housebroken and crate trained. He will soon be tested with cats, but we think it's likely he would do just fine with them as well! We are looking to place him in a home without young children at this time. Because he has a history of being nervous with veterinary handling, we suggest he be muzzled for all vet visits, but he has been trained to wear a basket muzzle comfortably so it can be as stress free a process as possible for him! Sabre is a shar-pei mix who we think is the missing sibling of Jody and Buffy. Jody and Buffy were found on the highway after one of their siblings was hit by a truck. Sabre, and the mother, weren’t found with them. But after a few months we got a call from the shelter and they had found a pregnant pup who looked to be Jody and Buffy’s sibling. She didn’t have much time left in the shelter before she was scheduled for euthanization so we didn’t think twice about pulling her out immediately. Just two days after she arrived at our Texas foster’s house, she gave birth to nine beautiful puppies who have all been adopted. Sabre was an incredible young mother, but now it's time for her to start enjoying life for herself. Sabre is estimated to be just about a year old. She is fully vaccinated and will be spayed before going home. She is a very loving girl, and very friendly with all the animals and the humans that she mets. She walks well on a leash. She likes to be pet and loved, but is also content to play independently with her toys. She is house-trained. Her foster says she is a great dog!! Sabre is currently in Texas but will be transported to NJ when adopted. Meet Dot - she can sure make a point! Dot is a sharpei mix that is full grown and currently weighs 31 pounds. We believe she is 1 to 2 years old and is amazingly sweet with humans!! Dot is great with other dogs in causal settings (like on a walk) but does have resource guarding issues with food and toys with other dogs. Given her resource guarding issues with other dogs we believe Dot should be in an home as an only dog or someone with experience/trained in resource guarding behavior. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed.
