Story
Meet Farrah ACCT-A-210853! Farrah is a 12-year-old female who came in as a stray on 1/7. She was definitely nervous at first but with time and patient people around her, Farrah has begun to come out of her shell! Her love and kindness are showing through her more scared exterior and it’s truly wonderful to see. Despite her age, she still displays a lot of puppy energy! Farrah delights those around her every day and she can do the same for you! Behavior Notes: Per staff 1/16: “Farrah has been sharing an office with me for several days now. She waits for me to come in every morning & once I open the door, she prances around & whines for me to immediately pet her & scratch her head. Farrah is a very sweet & loving dog. She has become quite attached to me in just a few days. She will gently place her paws on my lap & just lean on me while I pet her head. She is very quiet-I have not heard her make much noise other than a whine here & there for attention. She has many human shelter friends who come in & visit with her and she will play with them often acting like a young pup! Other dogs have walked by my door and Farrah will walk over & sniff through the gate, interested but always calm. The cutest thing that Farrah does is wash her face with her paws just like a cat. Everyone loves when she does this because it is so cute. Farrah is so lonely when I leave for the day-she really wants to be with someone and have the companionship & love she deserves. She is a senior dog who really would benefit from leaving the shelter ASAP.” Per staff 1/8: “Farrah/LuLu wasn't a fan of the other dog during her dog meet today. At first she slowly stalked up to the other dog, and then became very avoidant. When her meet partner gave her a butt sniff she low growled, but did not escalate or correct the other dog. Once they were separated Farrah/LuLu just walked away calmly.” 1/8 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: ”KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Farrah/LuLu is staying in an office at this time. When the handler approached she was laying on her bed. She glanced up with neutral eyes and then laid her head back down. She ignored the handler as she walked into the room and remained neutral when she was leashed. Once secured she stood up and walked out with the handler. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally, but walks slowly and likes to stop and check out her surroundings HANDLING : Farrah/LuLu stayed near her main handler in the room with us. She gave me a couple sniffs with neutral eyes and a high tail, but then backed into her handler. She allowed her main handler to give her lots of scratches, and leaned in for booty and back scratches. She would do everything she could to give her handler her butt for more scratches. She was sensitive around her ears and feet, but was tolerant and allowed them to be touched. She climbed up into her main handler’s lap at one point, soliciting and leaning in. Overall, she was very tolerant and even sweet once she got to trust her person. PLAY: No interest TOYS: No interest” Per staff 1/8: “Visited Farrah in staff member’s office. She was initially a bit hesitant of me but once I sat down she came over and sniffed me and then loosened up. She allowed me to lightly pet her back and then shook off and rubbed against me soliciting. she allowed all over handling and did toe taps while petting her butt and was very cute! She even allowed me to get a little splinter off her face above her eye.” Per staff 1/7: “Met lulu in staff member’s office, she is likely deaf. She woke up after I put my hand in front of her nose so she could sniff it. She is wary, and walked away from me.” The finder noted on 1/7 that she was “was very nervous when I trapped it in yard but did let me pet it on the car ride over. growled when I first approached it when I had it trapped in a yard. scared, shy, did warm up during car ride.” Medical Notes: Per an exam on 1/9: “Bright, alert, responsive, very nervous for restraint. Moderate dental tartar, pt did not allow for thorough oral exam. Mild serous ocular discharge OU. Heavy brown otic debris AU, very pruritic. Pt did not allow for otoscopic exam. Mild to moderate diffuse scabbing superficial dermatitis, most notable in skin folds. Numerous superficial abrasions and scars diffusely. No appreciable ectoparasites. ~2 cm, firm SQ mass on L lateral thorax.” Staffs overall assessment was: -Superficial pyoderma, pruritus: r/o bacterial infection, fungal infection, allergies, trauma, auto-immune disease, other -Anxiety (during vet visits, noted to be calm in w/ office foster) -Slightly overweight -SQ mass: suspect benign vs malignant Per an exam on 1/8: “Ears are dirty an itchy. Clear nasal discharge. Tartar buildup and staining. Skin itchy dry fleas lump on left side of stomach. Quiet, alert, responsive, fractious.” Girla and Farrah: https://youtube.com/shorts/TxK6uahVdq4?feature=share ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in.
