Meet Peanut, an adult Shar-Pei mix with a heart full of love and a spirit brimming with joy. Her personality is a delightful blend of friendly, sweet, playful, goofy, smart, and mellow. Peanut loves to engage in a good game of fetch, her tail wagging in excitement. She's also a quick learner, mastering new tricks in no time. Yet, despite her playful nature, Peanut knows when it's time to relax, often curling up for a quiet moment of peace. She's truly a perfect companion for any home. Adopt Peanut, and fill your life with her sweetness and joy. Peanut is a 1 - 2 yr old female Shar-Pei mix. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit in well with most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! Peanut is food motivated and knows the command sit. She mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is intensely interested in cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Hello, I'm Cecil. I was found dumped on the side of a ditch with nothing but my friend and a blanket. Thankfully a nice person helped get me and my friend to the shelter and offered to foster us. I'm a sweet boy and look to be around 4 years old. My history is a mystery but I'm friendly and loving. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2288733##
