Hi! Mia is looking for a loving home with people who want to share their bed, couch and arms for nice long cuddle sessions! She does well with other dogs, but is afraid of small kids and needs a home without little ones running around and tugging at her. She is a wonderful companion, and the sweetest wrinkly smoosh! Mia can be a bit lazy, so long walks are not her preference. She enjoys having a toy or two handy that she can play with or snuggle up to, though. She also prefers to be in her crate when left home alone, or as known to her, her “house”. Mia was adopted in 2018 and was estimated to be about 2-3 years old at that time. She is a truly wonderful dog and we are beyond devastated by the need to rehome her so hoping for a special person or people to become her new family. Thank you for considering!

Our microchips will automatically register when an adoption is finalized - Currently on medications for anxiety suppport More about Miss Honey: Housebroken: Working on it and making progress, but may still have occasional accidents. She will benefit from continuing to work on this with positive reinforcement training and a consistent routine! Crate trained: Yes! She has done well for up to 8 hours in her crate when home alone, and sleeps well in her crate overnight. Leash walking: Doing well overall. She does not pull but she can occasionally bark when other dogs bark at her first. Dog social: Yes! Miss Honey has participated in dog playgroups at our Adoption Center and did well. She lives with other dogs in her foster home and likes to play, but may guard resources (food, toys, chews) so should have management in place around high value items. Cat social: Unknown Kid friendly: She has been friendly towards children but is a better match for older kids (12+) as she can become easily excitable Miss Honey likes: - Watching TV with you - Enjoying the sunshine - Cuddling up in some cozy blankets Miss Honey has two speeds: attention-seeking-shadow and total couch potato. Most of the time, she is happy to cuddle up to you on the couch or snooze in her bed while you cook or work from home, but if she decides you haven't paid attention her to enough she will follow you everywhere. That being said, if you play with her for 10-15 minutes, she is totally knocked out on the couch for the rest of the evening. When you are sitting on the couch watching TV, she will try her best to lay on top of you so she can maximize the potential for belly rubs. She loves to be as cozy as possible, and will burrow in blankets or squeeze herself into the smallest dog bed available. She would appreciate an adopter who can help her channel her energy in positive ways when she becomes overstimulated, to avoid mouthing and jumping behaviors. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.One minute you have an owner that takes you everywhere in his truck and lets you and your brother sleep on the bed or next to his recliner. Then the unimaginable happens and your dad won’t wake up. You can’t call for help, you can only watch over your daddy until someone stops by. After three days strangers started banging on the door and finally brake in. These are people you have never seen before. In your fear you both start barking and trying to protect dad. The next minute you have a catchpole choking your neck and throwing you in a kennel. You are separated from your brother and thrown in a loud kennel with strangers. You sit in a corner shaking with fear until you finally see a face you recognize. But you are so scared you keep barking and growling until you realize they are here to save you and your brother. This is Chula’s story. When we got Chula and Booger to the rescue they were still in shock from losing their dad. For the first two months they would only let Pat near them, since they knew her in their old life. Finally they started responding and were able to come to the kennels were they could interact with the workers and start looking for a new family. Booger was able to find a home and is living a remarkable life. Chula wasn’t understanding how she went from pampered housedog to living in a kennel by herself. A decision was made to place her with Chance and see if they could make a connection. The transformation of both dogs was incredible. Chance became sociable and would allow us to leash him and take him for walks with Chula. Chula enjoyed getting out of the kennel and playing. They started spending the day in our exercise areas playing and running. They have become social to new people and are ready for the right home. Chula is an older dog. She only has a few more years if she is lucky. She has been a house dog and has never pooped in her room. Ideally, we would love for Chance and Chula to find a home together. Unfortunately. we know how rare that opportunity is. Are you that special someone who has love to give to an older dog? She can be cautious around new people, but given a few minutes Chula will start working her magic on you. Chula’s ideal home will be an older family without small children and no cats or small dogs. She enjoys playing with toys and Chance in the rescue’s exercise yard. She would love and needs to have a home with a fenced yard with perhaps a companion dog so they can play and explore the yard together. Chula is a beautiful Shar Pei/lab mix who weighs 61.2 pounds. She has a thyroid issue, so she has to have thyroid pills twice a day. Are you wanting a partner to watch TV with? Chula is ready! **Crinkle, crinkle, CRINKLE*** ever tried to be quiet in a theater while opening your candy bag?? Well, that is my LIFE!!! I have wrinkles and creases and crinkles EVERYWHERE!!! But, hey! I am a Shar Pei, so what else do I do?? (i mean besides look so so cute?) Yes, can you believe a purebred Shar Pei tied to a post... only in South Texas :(, that was 3 years ago.... But, I am one of the lucky ones! I was even adopted 3 years ago!!! However, my luck ran out when my owner died and his kids couldn't keep me.... SO here I am again, pleading for the right family to adopt me!!! I want to find a home who loves me and won't mind a little **crinkle, crinkle** in the middle of the night. On September 11th, 2015 Sonny was hit by a car in Chicago and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He sat there for almost a week.....his euthanasia date was set but that didn't stop ICARe president Margaret from doing everything possible to save his life. After many, many phone calls and emails we got Sonny to safety and more importantly to see the vet! Tests were done showing a spinal cord injury that will not heal. Sonny had no use of his back legs. He also could not urinate on his own so his bladder had to be expressed manually. Let me tell you how amazing this dog is. He can now urinate on his own AND even more amazing is Sonny is getting therapy and regaining the function in his back legs. He can take several steps and stand on his own! Sonny has some wheels to help him get around on longer walks as his front end is very strong and he is perfectly capable of going all over! Sonny needs a special, special forever home.
