Meet Kylie (Kye): Kylie is approximately five years of age. She is fully vetted in spayed and up-to-date on everything. she is good with other dogs, cats and loves people. She's never been around children so we really don't know but she's very gentle. Adorable girl Was rescued from the Hillsboro County shelter. So sad that nobody came for her. Which is so shocking because Kylie is sweet, affectionate, incredibly smart, is a great listener, knows basic commands, she's a fast learner and she's very ladylike inside the home. She is a blue ribbon winner at power napping! She loves to play we would say she is on the lower end of medium energy. Whoever had her prior did not take very good care of her so she is still healing from that neglect but she's coming along fine and if she continues on good food she will be great! She just needs care that she should've gotten all along. Some of our most heartfelt moments here at Satchel's is watching our animals come out of their shells to reveal their wonderful and different personalities. One of our most notable pups would be Miss Sicily. When she first arrived, Sicily kept her guard up, she was nervous and untrusting. She would let a select few staff members engage with her, but did not show affection and was more relieved when the interaction was over. Fast forward a few weeks, and we could see a small spark starting to show through, she was more willing to take treats from us and was more curious about going outside. She then found a lovely Woof Pack leader, Peg, who was willing to work with her on socializing and getting her to open up more. Soon she started jumping up on us when we went to clean her kennel, started giving us kisses and loved being rubbed all over. She started showing her silly side, playing with toys and goofing around. She was still nervous outside the kennel, and she still has moments when she is unsure about the environment, but her confidence has significantly grown since the day she first arrived. Sicily can still be a bit weary of men and tends to gravitate towards females, but we are so proud of the steps she has conquered and continues to, even today. She has shown us that the shyest of pups have a love for play and affection and sometimes it just takes patience and understanding to let their light shine through. Today, Sicily loves to go out with Peg in our back yard and run around, getting all her zoomies out and acting like a goofball. She loves to give hugs and kisses, getting belly rubs when she rolls over and just generally loves attention. Otis is a designer breed that they like to call a Hippo. He is a young Shar Pei and Cocker Spaniel mix, weighing 30-35 lbs, and boy is he cute! He knows it too. He is an energetic boy who occasionally gets the zoomies and loves to be chased around. Otis will occasionally engage in a game of ball. He is a brilliant boy who is very well-mannered. He knows all of his basic commands. He is also fantastic on the leash. He loves to go for car rides and long walks. He likes most new people but prefers that you give him his space when first meeting him. He can be protective of those he loves in a home environment. He believes that it is his job. He did live with children in his prior home but would prefer older children that would respect his space. Meet lovely, sweet Rose! She is such an affectionate, grateful, and happy girl. She loves playing fetch and she would have a toy in her mouth 24/7 if she could! She has the perfect pup smile and lights up any time you give her a head rub or pick up a toy to play with her. She would love a fenced in yard where she can run and play fetch with you. She loves going for walks and car rides. Sweet Rose loves to cuddle with humans and Iris on the couch (they might even lay on each other to get closer to you). She’s interested in cats but may scare them due to her excited nature. Meet beautiful Iris! She has a sweet, gentle nature and loves to play and wrestle with Rose. Iris needs a patient, understanding home with a predictable routine. She can be a little skittish in new or unfamiliar environments, but she has shown that she warms up to people rather quickly. She has the most expressive eyes and the cutest deer-tail (her little, excited tail wiggles are the best). She’s incredibly intelligent and learns quickly; she’d benefit from constant enrichment to build her confidence. Sometimes she’ll pick up a toy, look directly at Rose, and then run away, all because she wants Rose’s attention. She is potty trained, good with other dogs, and OK with cats. Iris would do best in a home with no small children. She was originally living with a homeless person who died so she ended up in a rural shelter. We saved her from euthanasia as she was exhibiting signs of stress!! She would suck on her tail for comfort. Freya was flourishing in a caring boarding facility where she is doing very well at learning to be a dog and have fun. She was in a temporary foster home with 2 dogs and a cat. She watches the cat and is very curious. With supervision there have been no issues, if our cat would run, no doubt she would chase it. She loves the attention from kids, best to be older, dog savvy - 10 years old + as she can be mouthy. Freya sleeps in a crate overnight with no fuss or accidents. Good walking on a leash with a harness. She taught herself to use the doggy door. Not bothered by thunderstorms. Freya will be going for board and train to set her up for success. She would love to go into her forever home after that. Training stars 8/31/24 until the end of September. If there is another dog in the home, it would need to be playful, high energy to match Freya. She would be too much for low-key dogs. On a day trip, taken out by one of our volunteers, they said: She was super sweet all day, barely tugged on the leash towards the end and didn’t act anxious at all. She loved hanging out next to the water at the few parks we went to and enjoys tug of war as well! She’s definitely a wind in her hair type of girl and likes her head out the window, also super curious with every flower she came across Freya is still just a baby learning the world isn't such a bad place.
