Story
Rusty is a 5-year-old neutered male who came to us as an owner surrender, Rusty was loved very much by his former family and had a wonderful life with them prior to coming to Peipeople. Rusty is standoffish with new people and would prefer a quiet home without children. He would benefit from socialization and basic obedience to build confidence and improve his leash skills as he was sheltered from the world previously. We have discovered he loves walks and keeps his nose plastered to the ground as he walks taking in all the smells. When he meets new people, he will bark and avoid in typical shar pei style. He does warm up to women faster than men and after a few weeks with his foster family he has really bonded with both his foster mom and dad. He is fostered with 3 other dogs and is doing great! He does not seem interested in playing with them but does enjoy their company and loves when his foster mom chases him around the house. He gets very excited, and the zoomies come out!  He is house broken and figured out how to go out the dog door quickly. When Rusty’s foster family must go out, they leave him loose in the house with the front curtains open so he can see the world and he spends hours looking out at his kingdom . We would love to find a home who will give Rusty the time to settle in and become the best friend we see!    He is currently fostered in Fort Collins, CO January 7, 2025, 11:16 am

Story
Meet Marcelene! This 3-year-old (Likely younger) girl is full of energy and always ready to go! She is good with other dogs and really needs a home with another active dog that will play with her, she loves to play tug of war! She is house broken and working on her kennel skills.  She has been around small children and seemed ok however we are recommending children 8+ with her due to her hyper nature. She is a little overly interested in chickens so she should be kept away from livestock, we have not had her around cats.   If you want a friend to run a marathon with this girl is ready! She also will hike all the 14ers the same day if you want and still have energy to go for a walk around the neighborhood.  She is currently fostered in Fort Collins, CO  January 19, 2025, 10:02 am

Story
Meet Oden! This handsome 2 year old 40lb boy is all personality!  He loves everyone he meets and is ready for any adventure you might have, even if it’s just a ride around the block. It has been reported to us he has been around young children and cats without issues He is currently fostered with other dogs and does fine, however would probably prefer a calmer home with mellow dogs as his current foster siblings who run at 110% are a little overwhelming.  He has been recovering from his neuter and is working on his kennel training during this recovery period. So far he is doing great!    January 20, 2025, 8:51 pm

Story
From foster: Where are all the wrinkly face lovers at?? Roscoe is the perfect gentleman and gets along really well with our dogs and cats. He is super confident and loves to play with our 5 yr old dog Gajic.  He is housetrained and knows "sit," "leave it," "lay down," "outside," and "last call" (what we say as last potty before bed). His only bad "habit" is that he wants to jump on you when he's playing, but has learned we don't allow that so his remedy is to stand on his hind legs without touching you.  He is super sweet and takes correction very well. He listens and then will boop you a kiss as a "sorry." He is definitely a playful pup at 2 and loves his toys plus running around with all the dogs.  He is respectful of our boundaries as we just lean a baby gate at the stairs and he has learned to not knock it over. However, he does love to sleep with us and his feelings get super hurt when he cannot. He will let you know that his feelings are hurt.  He is such a good boy and is super sweet. I know you'll love him more than we do when you bring him home.  From Past Family: Yoda is a great dog. He’s fully potty trained and sleeps through the night. He is a sharpei mix, about 2years old. He is very energetic and playful in the morning and mid-afternoon. He loves walks, rabbits, and playing tug of war with his humans. He does well on a leash and responds quickly during walks if you need to keep him by your side. When he’s not playing, he likes to relax in a sunny spot of the house. He's been to a few dog parks and has done great with other dogs, though spends more of his time curiously exploring the smells. At night, he loves to cozy up and snuggle with lots of cushions. He gets along well with other dogs. Roscoe has done great with children ranging in age and has never shown any fear or aggression with many kids around, though his energy can be a lot for younger kids as he may unintentionally knock into them while playing. Yoda was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. He was adopted last year, but returned due to the family having a baby on the way and having high energy. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2124253##

Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED!  Meet Burrow the Shar Pei!  Hello there! My name is Burrow, and I'm a one-year-old Shar Pei with a heart full of love and a knack for Feng Shui! I've been on quite an adventure so far, and now I'm looking for a forever home where I can share all my puppy love. I'm your typical Shar Pei puppy—lazy yet playful. I enjoy running around and having fun with my foster siblings, but I also know the importance of taking relaxing naps in the warm sun. Speaking of Feng Shui, I've got a little talent for it—I like to rearrange shoes to bring love and luck into your home (although I promise, I haven't chewed any!). While I'm still young and learning, I haven't had much formal training yet. I'm currently working on my leash manners and learning basic commands like "sit" (especially when blueberries are involved—I can't resist!). Every day, I'm improving and learning a lot at my foster home. I'm a social butterfly who adores people, and I'm great with potty training and other dogs. I dream of finding a family who will cuddle with me and shower me with kisses—I have plenty of those to give in return! I'm up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. Interested in meeting me, apply today! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##2101762##
