Story
Rusty is a 5-year-old neutered male who came to us as an owner surrender, Rusty was loved very much by his former family, and it’s been hard on both parties. Rusty is standoffish with new people and would prefer a quiet home without children. He would benefit from socialization and basic obedience to build confidence and improve his leash skills.. When he meets new people he will bark and avoid in typical shar pei style. He does warm up to women faster than men and after a few weeks with his foster family he has really bonded with both his foster mom and dad. He is fostered with 3 other dogs and is doing great! He does not seem interested in playing with them but does enjoy their company. He is house broken and figured out how to go out the dog door quickly .  His foster mom kennels him when he is home alone to help him have a safe spay and he does great in the kennel, but he has been pretty trustworthy in the house. We would love to find a home who will give Rusty the time to settle in and become the best friend we see!  Rusty is currently about 75lbs but is working his weight loss plan and will soon be to his goal weight of 65lbs  December 1, 2024, 10:48 am

Story
Meet Damascus! a 2 and a half year-old Bear Coat Shar Pei with more wrinkles than a seasoned sage and a personality that's even more complex. With his majestic, teddy bear-like appearance, he’s a self-proclaimed expert in napping, snacking, and giving side-eye to anyone who dares disturb his royal rest. His impressive coat, as soft as it is stylish, serves as the perfect camouflage for his undercover operation as a couch potato and professional blanket hog. He enjoys long walks to the fridge and leaving his owners wondering if they’ve ever seen a dog so dramatically aloof. Not just a pretty face—he’s got the charm, the sass, and the ability to make you laugh every time he wiggles his butt for a treat. Damascus is fostering in the Houston, TX area. Story
From Foster: Braxton is a spunky fellow! He is always ready to play and loves toys. He is curious and observant and will make a great guard dog and playful companion. He’s a fast learner and can sleep through the night, going 9 hours with no wake ups or accidents! You’ll be thankful you added Braxton to your family this Thanksgiving! This pup was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2212244##

From Foster: Benjamin is a magnet for laps. If there is someone to cuddle with, he is headed your way! He loves to play and loves his toys, but adores cuddling most of all. He is a quick learner and is almost fully potty trained. He is able to go 9 hour overnight in the kennel with no accidents. He is curious and smart and eager to please. He’s going to make someone a wonderful and loyal companion!! This pup was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED!  Meet Burrow the Shar Pei!  Hello there! My name is Burrow, and I'm a one-year-old Shar Pei with a heart full of love and a knack for Feng Shui! I've been on quite an adventure so far, and now I'm looking for a forever home where I can share all my puppy love. I'm your typical Shar Pei puppy—lazy yet playful. I enjoy running around and having fun with my foster siblings, but I also know the importance of taking relaxing naps in the warm sun. Speaking of Feng Shui, I've got a little talent for it—I like to rearrange shoes to bring love and luck into your home (although I promise, I haven't chewed any!). While I'm still young and learning, I haven't had much formal training yet. I'm currently working on my leash manners and learning basic commands like "sit" (especially when blueberries are involved—I can't resist!). Every day, I'm improving and learning a lot at my foster home. I'm a social butterfly who adores people, and I'm great with potty training and other dogs. I dream of finding a family who will cuddle with me and shower me with kisses—I have plenty of those to give in return! I'm up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. Interested in meeting me, apply today! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##2101762##

Story
Hi, I’m Poptart! I’m a young, energetic pup bursting with enthusiasm and ready to take on the world! I’m looking for an active and patient home where I can thrive. Training classes will be a great way to help me adjust and grow into the best companion I can be. I am pushy with other dogs and would do best as the only dog. Due to my youthful exuberance and mouthy behaviors, a mature household would be the best fit for me.

Story
Hi there! I'm Luna, a sweet and loving pup who's always ready for kisses, cuddles, and all the pets you can give! I adore spending time with my family and get along great with other dogs. I'm even friendly with cats, though I keep hoping they'll play with me one day! I'm independent but also a fan of attention, so if you're looking for a balance, I'm your girl. I can get anxious when I'm left alone, but I think having a confident doggy sibling would make all the difference. I do really well with other dogs and I even like cats! I've been raised in a home with humans of all ages, from infants to adults, and I've got the perfect temperament to match. My humans lovingly call me their “nanny dog” because I'm gentle, patient, and love to watch over my people. When it comes to playtime, fetch is my favorite! I'm really into durable, tough-chew toys—they keep me busy for hours! If you're looking for a loyal companion who loves to play but is also great at relaxing, I could be the perfect fit for your family. I would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time because I can get anxious when left alone and I love being with my humans. I'd do great with another confident dog. Cats are fine too! My adoption fee includes a training program specific to my needs.

🐾 Meet Bug AKA Cuddle Bug: The Smart and Caring Companion You've Been Waiting For! 🐶 Bug is a special pup with a heart full of love, and she's looking for her forever family to share it with. This adorable girl was one of the Tractor Supply pups, and she's ready to bring joy, intelligence, and cuddles to your life. 🌟 Bug's Remarkable Qualities: Intelligence: Bug is incredibly smart and resourceful. She's known for her ability to find her way to where she wants to go, making it essential for her forever family to be proactive in keeping her safe. Training Superstar: Bug is both potty and crate trained, and she's a quick learner. She'll even use the doggy door on her own, most of the time! Her love for treats has made potty training a breeze. Multilingual Pup: Bug is not just smart but bilingual too! She understands commands in Spanish, adding an extra layer of charm to her personality. Great with Crates: Whether it's overnight or during the day when you're at work, Bug is a model crate occupant. She'll stay comfortable and content. Active and Energetic: Bug thrives on activity! She'd love a family that can take her on long walks or even runs to keep her energy in check. 🏡 Ideal Forever Home: Bug is a unique girl, and her ideal home would be a single pet household with no males. She's extremely active and requires a space to run freely. Older kids are perfect for her, so she won't accidentally knock them over. And don't forget, Bug really needs a doggy door; she hasn't quite learned to "knock" yet. 🎾 Bug's Favorite Pastime: She's a tennis ball fiend! Make sure to get an oversized one because she loves to play, and she's a bit of a heavy chewer. Keep her safe by avoiding toys that can be shredded and eaten. 🌽 Sensitive Tummy: Bug has a sensitive tummy, so providing her with a sensitive tummy food will keep her happy and healthy. 🌸 All About Cuddles: Bug is a true girly-girl, always looking adorable with bows and flowers in her hair. Her favorite pastime is cuddling with her human. If you're looking for a furry friend to snuggle with, Bug is your girl! 🏡 Ready to Adopt Bug?
