HI - I'M JULIE! I'm about 8-9 years young and a loving girl! I've been waiting for awhile for a home - not sure why nobody wants me, because I'm super cute. I only weigh about 52 lbs and am an affectionate snuggle bug. I prefer to be the only dog in the home and prefer people to dogs so would do best with a single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I'm not a fan of cats either, so no kitties for me please. I am in good athletic shape and still love to go for walks and hikes. And I love the water! I can sometimes come off as a little aloof, but once I bond, I am a deeply devoted diva.  I'm noble like a lion, adorable like a teddy bear, and independent like a cat.  What can you expect from a breed that once held court with Chinese royalty?  Despite my history of imperial admirers, I don't care to be fussed over too much. Even though I'm quite dignified I absolutely have a goofy side, put me in a yard and I love to run zoomies and play fetch! If you have a dog already in your home, I would need to meet them before joining your family. I have a unique personality, but you'll find me to be a fiercely loyal companion and a true treasure for your household. Come and ask to meet me today, Genevieve! We do our best to update our listings regularly, but we can’t guarantee every animal you see is still available. It’s also typical for us to have animals who haven’t had their photos taken yet, so you are welcome to visit our adoption center and have a look around! I do well with my doggy neighbors at my current location, and have been a model citizen. Meet Frankfurt!-4 year old intact male English Bulldog -Weighs about 58#-No history from previous home as he came in as a stray-Upon intake, staff observed that Frankfurt is not so steady on his feet at all times. Medical staff observed him and suspect he has some sort of neurological condition that causes him to have severe ataxia with intermittent stumbling. -Ideal home would be a dog savvy adopter who will provide significant lifestyle modifications in the home including but not limited to: carpet/non-slip floors and fall protection-Interested adopters will need a consultation with medical staff to provide them will information to make an informed decision prior to falling in love with Frankfurt’s endearing personality-In Shelter, he has been observed trying to play with dogs of various sizes and sexes. Some dogs are a little unsure of him due to his unsteady movements. Any resident dogs are recommended to meet in the Shelter prior to adoption-No history with children or catsNow through December 23rd – the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is hosting “Home for the Holidays”. This adoption event reduces the adoption fee for all cats, rabbits and dogs to $50.Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
