Story
Hi there! I'm Dexter and I'm a 6 and a half year old poodle. I just recently discovered what it's like to be a house dog! Man is it comfortable; big fan of naps over here. So. Cozy. But don't get me wrong, I'm not just all about napping. I really enjoy playing with toys and would love a dog buddy to play with. The dogs in my foster home are cool and all, but they don't play with me (they nap even more than me, laaaaazyyyy). Not that they're not good dogs, because they are and we all get along really well, I just would love a buddy who likes to nap AND play. My foster moms also have a foster cat (shameless plug, go check out Big Foot's adoption profile) and he and I also get along great. Big Foot said he would stop booping me if I mentioned him. We'll see if he stays true to his word... There's also a human toddler here who runs around A LOT and definitely isn't quiet, but we're friends. He gives me his table food sometimes so I'm trying to stay on his good side. I really love being with humans! I don't love when they leave me at home but eventually I chill out, take a nap, and wait for them to come back. One of my foster moms took me for what she calls a walk...on this leash thing? It was interesting, but once I got the hang of it, I had fun. I only almost tripped her twice which I think is a win. I don't know if she feels the same though. I'd like to try it again and explore your neighborhood maybe?! The one thing I'm working really hard on is potty training. Do you know these humans expect me to go potty outside when it's BELOW ZERO? Not. A. Fan. However I guess it's required so I'm trying my best. My foster mom stands outside with me at the "pee tree" and stares at me shivering. I usually run away once or twice, then she chases me in her reindeer slippers, and puts me back at the tree. I guess that means I've got to go, so eventually I will. I'll figure it out. Now when it's not freezing cold outside, I go potty right away! Just be patient with me, I didn't have to potty outside where I was before. Well I think that's about it. Writing this took a lot of effort, I feel like I've earned a nap. Oh wait, I do also like to steal your socks. They just smell so good. So you should probably keep an eye on your socks or I will find them and steal them. Okay now that's it, gotta snooze! Can't wait to meet you. All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Thank you, Pet Central Helps!

Story
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process. Location: Decatur, IL Requirements: Secure PHYSICAL fenced yard Canine companion or mill dog experience Kurt is a shy boy that was once a breeder dog but saved from that life! He has early onset cataracts in one of his eyes and is sight impaired. Being a mill dog and not having sight makes the road for him a little more difficult, but he is learning to adjust. Kurt LOVES to snuggle and will just breathe a deep sigh of relief and melt in your arms. He is still learning how to be a dog but has initiated play with the foster's dog. This is a great sign and he would probably do best with having another confident dog in the home. If you do not have a dog then mill dog experience is required, as these dogs are a different challenge than a typical scared dog. Kurt mostly hangs out in quiet and less trafficked places, but is beginning to explore more. He probably would not be suitable in a home with young children. Kurt's adoption is $400. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
