Story
Rider is a beautiful big boy who was surrendered to the shelter when his owner left him with their roommate and never came back! Unfortunately the roommate wasn't interested in keeping him and he's now waiting for someone to scoop him up from the overcrowded shelter! Rider has been an aloof boy since getting to the shelter but warms up with time outside. The person who surrendered him said he is fully housetrained and that he's good with other dogs. Rider is now available for adoption or rescue partner at ACCT Philly. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm! Video: Rider and Pancake: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LlFM_M6pC5k?feature=share Rider and Serenity fence meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/mPwFRfqFXV4?feature=share Rider and Serenity meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/VzabElJ5bxs?feature=share Behavior: Per Volunteer 11/3/24: Rider was at the other end of his kennel when I approached- I whistled and he came right to me. Sniffed out the leash before allowing me to leash him and was hesitant of the leashing process. Going through the shelter he was VERY cautious. Walking out was very slow and sniffed everything he could, then cowered to the floor when he heard loud noises. Spent the whole time outside sniffing, pretty aloof with me. We did a meet with adoptable Pancake and Rider was VERY forward. He approached her very quickly and put his paws up on her as if he was trying to mount her. She ended up growling at him as he was being very rude so we ended the meet. He was more comfortable walking through kennels but I had to use some pressure to get him back inside his kennel. Per Staff 11/1/24: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Rider KNOWN HISTORY: Owner surrender KENNEL PRESENTATION: Rider was in his kennel with neutral eyes near the door. He had some high tail wags and was whining when the handler interacted with him. He sniffed through the crack of the door to sniff the leash and once secured came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulled moderately HANDLING: In the yard, Rider was sniffing around the yard chattering at all the smells. He never greeted the handlers but tolerated the handlers interacting with him. He was very aloof to all handling and tried to avoid interaction with the handlers. He is sensitive about his back end, ears, tail, and darted forward away the handler. Rider met a dog through the gate and was very excited with a high wagging tail. Further during his eval, Rider continued to ignore the handlers as we attempted to keep his attention on us and wanted to continue to sniff and smell around the yard where other female dogs have been. PLAY No interest TOYS: No interest Per Staff 10/31/24: was sniffing all around intake , was not showing interests with treats or us . allowed to be touched but would be a little tense . handler was able to muzzle rider and once muzzled and restraint , he allowed to be exam and get his shots ; advise to take it slow but appears to be a good boy with some time.
