Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cleft Palate & FIV+ Mariska is a quiet gentle soul. She has been able to overcome some big obstacles in her short life. She is quiet and calm, only giving little meows when she sees the wet food coming.  Her eyes are like windows into her past as she makes direct eye contact with you.  You can see the slightly skeptical look that comes from a life hard lived. Once you gain her trust she is very affectionate with an amazing purr that speaks louder than words about how much she appreciates the gentle touch. She would prefer a quieter home with a loving adopter who will continue to smoother her in the affection she craves. Upon first glance you will notice Mariska is missing many of her front teeth and has a malformed upper lip. Our vets believe she may have a congenital abnormality such as a cleft palate, but it may also be an older facial injury. She has adapted quite well and is able to eat/drink without issue, but she does so slowly and thus requires separate feedings to ensure she gets proper nutrition. Mariska is also FIV positive and requires a home where she can be the one-and-only or can join other FIV positive cats (check out Oreo's profile!). You can read more about FIV here: https://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/infectious-parasitic/c_ct_feline_immunodeficiency_virus_infection *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. While we aim to be as accurate as possible, each animal is individual and their behaviors and personalities can change in different surroundings.  HWMAR holds no guarantees to personality, behavior or breed*   Please review our adoption process & complete an application on our website -  www.hoofwoofmeow.org/adoption   We adopt within 150 mile radius of Elgin, IL **We are a 100% volunteer rescue.  All of our cats are in Foster Homes**Submission of an application does not guarantee adoption of any specific animal as they may have applications pending or might not be the right match for you**   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 8:51 pm

Story
Hi, I’m Cozy, a sweet and affectionate solid gray Russian Blue mix kitten girl, who was born at the end of May 2024 I need a little time to get acquainted with new people, but once I get to know you, I’ll be all over you for snuggles and love! I’m working hard on becoming the world’s best lap kitty! I also love to play, but cuddles are my favorite. I would like to be adopted with my brother, Cozumel—we’re a perfect pair! If you're looking for double the love, we can’t wait to meet you! We will be happiest in a quieter home with adults only or teenage children. Adoption fee is a minimum $110 per kitten donation to Feral Fixers. All cats are up to date on shots, microchipped, dewormed, fixed, and FeLV/FIV tested. Discounted adoption fee if two kittens are adopted together, $175 for a pair. Brief screening questionnaire and contract apply! Please email gotfriendlies@gmail.com or call (630) 881-7459 for more information

Story
With slightly fluffier gray fur and subtle stripes on his tail, Peter or as we’re referring to him “Peter the Great” has an outsized personality! He’s fearless and the first to investigate anything new or of interest. He’s a high energy alpha that doesn’t mind making demands on the humans or other kittens around … For instance, food/play/petting/running around are all high on his list of demands! However, he’s also a gentleman and a lover. Nothing better than laying on a couch next to you on his back to let you give him a full belly rub. He is a true cuddler. Peter was born in late August 2024. He would like a playmate to help keep him entertained. Could be another kitten or younger feline with higher energy, but perhaps not a competing alpha. Peter would welcome an environment with children and lots of interesting visitors! We think he might also do just fine with a friendly pup. We could see him making friends with a dog. He’s been great with the other kittens in his foster home (Penelope and Petunia) and encourages them to explore along his side. His favorite toys include wands, tunnels, motion oriented toys and a good round of “toss the mouse” as he’ll go straight for anything that you toss across the room. Hasn’t yet learned to bring it back to you but once he’s caught it… he’ll turn to look at you to wait for the next to be tossed. Peter is proud to report that he has claimed the highest spot in a 7ft. tall cat tree! Peter actively seeks attention. He was the first among his siblings to come to us seeking attention, which he really appreciates! Purrs like crazy and wants to be by your side. He’s fun to be around and makes us laugh 😁. No troubles at all with feeding and use of the litter box. Unfazed by loud noises and general household commotion and folks around. Name: Phoebe HalliwellBreed: Russian Blue/DSHDOB: 9/22/2024Good with kids: YESGood with dogs: YESGood with cats: YESFoster location: Machesney Park, IL Adoption fee: $200 a kitten or $350 for a pair of kittens  Fun Bio:  If interested in a pet from us please fill out the adoption application that is located on our website.  We process applications in the order in which they are received.  We will likely not respond to interest emails regarding puppies and/or kittens, we get so many "interest" emails that we simply do not have the time to respond to each one.  We always recommend playtime, positive reinforcement training and a regular schedule for feeding times when bringing a new cat/kitten into your home. Adjustment takes time for both you and your new family member, so remember to be patient and enjoy this new and exciting time!Included in the adoption fee are age appropriate vaccinations, FeLV/FIV testing, deworming, spay or neuter surgery, and microchip. Anti-Declawing Policy:All cats and kittens will have a no declaw policy in their adoption contract with us!  Declawing is a series of bone amputations.  Declawing is more accurately described by the term de-knuckling and is not merely the removal of the claws, as the term “declawing” implies.  In humans, fingernails grow from the skin, but in animals that hunt prey, the claws grow from the bone; therefore, the last bone is amputates so the claw cannot re-grow.  Declawing is one of the most painful, routinely performed procedures in all of veterinary medicine.  Each toe of the cat is amputated at the first joint.  Declawing a cat is equivalent in a person to amputating the entire first knuckle of every finger.  Declawing is done strictly for the benefit of the owner.  There are NO benefits to the cat and NO good reasons to declaw. Declawing can lead to behavior changes.  A declawed cat has no way to defend itself and may resort to biting more often.  Due to pain, they may stop using the litterbox.  There are humane alternatives to declawing.  Cats can be trained to use scratching posts.  They should have their nails trimmed regularly.  There is double sided sticky tape that can be put on furniture to deter a cat from scratching there.  There are also nail caps called Soft Paws that are glued onto a cat's naile cat’s nails without harm. ##2208244##
