Jex would thrive as the only pet in an understanding home where he can build trust at his own pace. Meet Jex at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Behavior notes: 01/19/2025 staff notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Jex was laying on his bed with scared wide eyes. He did not move from that spot so I threw the leash in for him to sniff. He sniffed it curiously and then came forward. He was easy to leash and came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally/moderately. HANDLING : In the room, Jex was very avoidant with a tucked tail and began exit searching. He tried to climb the table, the door and pawed at the window. He avoided eye contact with both handlers and wouldn't acknowledge us. In spurt I was able to do some handling and he remained tolerant but was unsure. He gave some side eye and would freeze at times but got a little more comfortable with time, allowing more handling but on a lower level. He was nervous with me being over him and would freeze and then back up. With time and patience he allowed all handling and would become more tolerant. ***Nicolai is heartworm POSITIVE as of December 12th and is on treatment. He can still be adopted at this time. We will supply adopter with a couple of months of meds to continue treatment until he is taken to a vet by adopter*** Nicolai is currently in a foster home at a rescue in Oklahoma. We are looking for a home in a state where people treat their animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport in one of the cities listed below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Nicolai is a male mixed breed, possibly Rhodesian Ridgeback and Black Mouth Cur (This is what our Apple AI guessed). -His teeth are really clean, so we are guessing he's around 1 1/2 years old. -His previous family moved and left him behind. -Our Animal Control Officer said he is very quiet and has not heard him bark yet. -Calm, well-mannered. -Nicolai is housebroken; he hates going to the bathroom in his kennel. -He is good with cats and is amazing with other dogs. Nicolai is neutered, vaccinated (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella), has been dewormed, a *positive* heartworm test as of December 12. Health certificate and exam will be performed less than 10 days prior to transport. Adoption fee is $550 total, this is including all vetting above and $250 transport cost. Meet Tommie: Tommie is about a 4 year old (as of November 2024) Black Mouth Cur mix (best guess) that weighs about 45 pounds. Tommie was found on the side of the highway picking at a chicken bone. The rescuer (now her foster) pulled over, shook a bag of beggin strips and right in the car she went! Tommie is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Tommie is a very sweet and loyal dog. She doesn’t bark and does so well with other dogs and kids! Tommie is not housebroken but she does well in her crate so we don’t think it would take long for her to figure out the process. We would love for Tommie to have a home with a fenced in yard for her to run and play freely. Tommie is up to date on her shots and spayed. Yardley is the definition of a cuddle bug. She is extremely friendly and loves to give kisses. She is eager to learn and very food motivated. She knows sit and stay. She is for the most part potty trained. And will go to the door when she needs to be let out. However, if ignored, her tiny puppy bladder makes it hard for her to hold it and she will pee. Yardley sleeps in her crate at night. She does cry during the day if left in there. We are going to work with a trainer to correct this. She loves our resident house dog and just wants to cuddle up with her. Yardley may be part kangaroo and can jump very high! Her lease manors are ok, she does pull but again we will work on that with a trainer. She would make a great adventure buddy.
