Jex ACCT-A-211602 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space for incoming dogs, and length of stay. Jex must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER or ADOPTER by Monday, February 3rd at 10 A.M. Should Jex's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Jex is a 2-year-old male who came to ACCT as an owner surrender on 1/18 due to homelessness. According to his owner, Jex is "not good with other animals but does well with strangers and is great with kids". They also noted that his favorite food is "Kibbles 'n Bits, but he won’t eat if his food isn’t moist and can be picky with foods". His owner described him as "hyper, housebroken", and knowing the command “sit.” While at ACCT, he has been described as a sensitive guy who needs a patient adopter to help him feel safe. Though he may seem uncertain at first, his curious and gentle nature shines through with time and patience. Jex doesn’t need a hex to win your heart—just one look into this sweet, shy boy’s eyes, and he’s got you. Due to his length of stay, Jex is timestamped and would thrive as the only pet in an understanding home, preferably with no kids due to his fearfulness, with someone who can help him build trust at his own pace. Pulls on leash and was scared but is a good boy. On 1/26/2025 Per Walksheet notes: Was noted to be shaking outside but could open up soon and was tolerant to handling. On 1/24/2025 Per Walksheet notes: Jex was noted to have stepped into leash no issues getting through kennel or back in. Very shy and low energy. Okay during meet with another dog, Debby. On 1/21/2025 Jex came down with an upper respiratory infection and was started on Doxycycline. PCR came back negative. On 1/19/2025 Per Walksheet notes: No issues getting out and through kennel but moderate issue getting him back in and had to use clip method to return. They described him as very shy and low energy. 01/19/2025 staff notes: Jex was laying on his bed with scared wide eyes. He did not move from that spot so I threw the leash in for him to sniff. He sniffed it curiously and then came forward. He was easy to leash and came right out. Pulls minimally/moderately on the leash. In the room, Jex was very avoidant with a tucked tail and began exit searching. He tried to climb the table, the door and pawed at the window. He avoided eye contact with both handlers and wouldn't acknowledge us. In spurt I was able to do some handling and he remained tolerant but was unsure. He gave some side eye and would freeze at times but got a little more comfortable with time, allowing more handling but on a lower level. He was nervous with me being over him and would freeze and then back up. With time and patience he allowed all handling and would become more tolerant. No interest in play but minimal interest in toys but did not take possession. On 1/18, during the initial intake exam, Jex was noted to have dirty ears, minimal staining on teeth, but overall bright, alert, responsive and noted to be nervous and slightly flighty but allowed the exam. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. ***Nicolai is heartworm POSITIVE as of December 12th and is on treatment. He can still be adopted at this time. We will supply adopter with a couple of months of meds to continue treatment until he is taken to a vet by adopter*** Nicolai is currently in a foster home at a rescue in Oklahoma. We are looking for a home in a state where people treat their animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport in one of the cities listed below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Nicolai is a male mixed breed, possibly Rhodesian Ridgeback and Black Mouth Cur (This is what our Apple AI guessed). -His teeth are really clean, so we are guessing he's around 1 1/2 years old. -His previous family moved and left him behind. -Our Animal Control Officer said he is very quiet and has not heard him bark yet. -Calm, well-mannered. -Nicolai is housebroken; he hates going to the bathroom in his kennel. -He is good with cats and is amazing with other dogs. Nicolai is neutered, vaccinated (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella), has been dewormed, a *positive* heartworm test as of December 12. Meet Peach! Peach is very excited to go to her forever home to play fetch. She is so good at fetch that she has learned how to play fetch by herself! If you have the opportunity to meet Peach this is a trick you will definitely want to see. When she is finished playing she will definitely want some snuggle time; she is one of the sweetest dogs ever! Peach was pulled as part of “Angel Retreat’s ACCT’s of love” program. She was scheduled to be euthanized due to lack of space at an extremely overcrowded and underfunded urban shelter. We were honored to step in and give this mama and her 2 puppies a happy ending. Peach is a 3 year old boxer mixed breed who is simply wonderful! She came in with her two puppies (Pac Man and Bolt) after they were surrendered to the shelter by the next door neighbor. Peaches and her puppies had been living outside in their backyard all alone, after their former owner was arrested by the police. The next door neighbor had been feeding them, but decided they needed a real home and brought them into the shelter. Mama Peaches is absolutely phenomenal! She is easy going, sweet, has great manners in her foster home. She is very dog and people friendly, and greets anyone with a tail wag.
