Story
Tanner is looking for his FOREVER HOME! Tanner has quite the story to tell. He came into rescue in February of 2021. He was covered in bite wounds and extremely emaciated. Tanner was terrified of everything and everyone but he bonded with our foster coordinator. I saw his heart of gold and after a year of very little progress, I decided to keep him as my forever foster. Then the unimaginable happened and she was hit head on in a terrible car accident. Luckily her mom was able to take Tanner into her home, where he has done absolutely amazing. Her mom already has two dogs and all though she loves Tanner, she does not want a third dog as she’s never had a big dog. Now after a month in the hospital and rehab facility the foster coordinator Gina has made the hard decision that she is not the right home for Tanner. The accident has left her with over 20 broken bones and a long rehabilitation journey ahead. It will be 6 months before she will be walking again. Also, her youngest son was with her in the accident and spent 23 days in a coma. He will have over a year of recovery ahead of him. Sadly, this has made her see that my home is not the best home for Tanner. Tanner will thrive in a home that is quiet without a ton of people coming in and out and without getting tons of deliveries, She feels there is someone out there that is looking for companionship, and Tanner is the best dog for this. Tanner is a 3-1/2 year old Rhodesian/hound mix and weighs 60lbs. He is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped. Tanner is house trained and promises not to be destructive so he doesn’t require a crate when you are away. Tanner needs a home with a fenced yard as he loves to go for walks, but he will not potty on a leash. Gina has a dog door and he absolutely thrives. Tanner is truly a sweet boy who is looking for a peaceful place to call his own. Tanner is an anxious dog and he takes Prozac and Xanax. Gina fees that in the right environment, he may not require this medication. Tanner is dog friendly, but he likes to have his person all to himself so she would like him to be the only dog in the home and this will help him to bonds to his owner. He is the most loving and sweet boy and wants to be right with his person all the time so you’ll need to be ok with him snuggled next to you on the couch and in the bed. This is how he bonds with people. Since the accident, Gina has seen Tanner in a different environment, one that is quiet (she fostered many dogs and has 3 dogs of her own) and he LOVES a quiet environment. He is THRIVING! With no kids running around, no teenagers hanging out on the weekend, no daily FedEx deliveries. He absolutely needs a calm environment. She has noticed that he needs less medication at her mom’s and she hopes that a quiet home will allow him to need less and less. Tanner doesn’t mind if you leave for church or bingo or getting groceries but would do best if there aren’t a lot of visitors or deliveries in the home. He does not love FedEx. The rescue is willing to place Tanner as a permanent foster in the right home which means the Rescue would cover all vet care, preventatives, medication and food. If you feel like you can be his special person please go to our website at rescuedogsdream.com and complete an application. Background check and reference checks will be completed prior to meeting. Tanner is located in Citrus County, Florida
