Story
Meet Maya aka Velcro Girl (in the best possible way) Maya is a gorgeous 35-lb Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with stunning burnt-orange coloring, soulful amber eyes, and a sweet dark mask that makes her look permanently smitten with life. About 12 months old, Maya is a devoted young mama who raised three puppies and is now ready to be someone’s beloved companion. She’s gentle and a little thoughtful at first, but once she warms up, Maya is deeply loving, loyal, and emotionally tuned in. She earned the nickname “Velcro” because she truly wants to be near her people. Her signature move? Greeting you with a stuffed toy in her mouth every time you come home — her way of saying “I missed you.” Maya is: • Great with other dogs • Excellent on leash • Knows sit • Loves zoomies and cuddles • A total lap-lover • Sensitive, intuitive, and people-oriented Maya isn’t just beautiful — she’s soft, soulful, steady, and special. The kind of dog that truly belongs with you. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who sticks close and fills your life with warmth, Maya is ready to meet you. Story
Meet our sweet, beautiful girl Arya! She is approximately 8 years old and 60 lbs of pure love! Arya is super sweet, very affectionate, mellow, smart, and funny. She is the goodest girl who will do anything for a yummy treat! She absolutely loves her belly rubs and can often be found on her back, legs stretched out, waiting for her pets! She needs a little bit of time to warm up to a new environment or person, but once she gets comfortable, she will shower you with so much affection every day, everywhere. Here’s how to describe this sweet pea: - Walks great on leash (loves going on walks) - Easy to train as she’s super food motivated (food will make her do anything) - Smart and picks up new tricks/toys quickly - Crate and house trained - Loves to spend time with her human. She’ll be happy just sitting next to you - Very good in the car - Very good with brushing teeth, cleaning ears, shower - Loves belly rubs and pets - Loves squeaky toys - Good with other calm large dogs - She takes a daily anti-inflammatory for her minor arthritis but has no problem going on walks and living a happy life! :) As Arya needs a little bit of time to warm up, an adults-only home is recommended. Arya also needs to be the only pet in the home, and prefers a mellow home. Arya has never forgotten any of her fosters, and gets SO excited when they come to visit her. She can't wait to have that same excitement for you! Adopt our bundle of joy! Arya had a very tough life so far and is so ready to embrace her forever family. Story
Athena is is an overall great dog, she is very loving and loyal. She is a very good guard dog. She is house broken. When we had cats in the house she did not mind them so much but did get along with them or kept her distance. She is okay with kids but sometimes nervous around them. She is a calm but high energy dog. At the moment she has an extremely high anxiety issue in the morning usually from hearing birds chirp, it last most of the day and she has to be next to someone most of the time. I currently have her on medication to control some of that anxiety. But at times anxiety gets the best of her and she scratches or tries to hide in different places of the house , it becomes disruptive to other persons in the house. I work nights so I can not sleep when she does this during the day, also my wife works full time at home and it disrupts her work and my mother in law that lives with us has Alzheimer's and it is very hard to manage all of this going on. Please help.

#A5751957 Palmer is a 2-year-old male Rhodesian Ridgeback mix (possibly hound mix) with a handsome brown and black coat and a tall, athletic build. Found as a stray on January 25, 2026, alongside Mort A5751958 , Palmer weighs 84 lbs but is currently very thin for his breed and will need some healthy weight gain to feel his best. Palmer is shy in his kennel but appears to be a very sweet, gentle boy once given a little reassurance. The shelter environment is overwhelming for him, and he’s still finding his footing. He’s currently receiving medical treatment and will be adopted on a health waiver so his new family can continue his care. With patience, good nutrition, and a calm, loving home, Palmer has all the potential to grow into a confident and devoted companion. -2 years old, male, 84 lbs (underweight for breed) -Rhodesian Ridgeback mix / possible hound mix -Found as a stray on 01/25/2026 (came in with Mort A5751958) -Very shy in kennel but seems sweet and gentle -Thin and needs to gain weight -Currently receiving medication -Adoptable on a health and a $50 trust waiver -Would thrive in a patient, nurturing home     PALMER’S VIDEO: https://youtube.com/shorts/zVrW     For more information, contact volunteer Lor at  lor@unitedhopeforanimals.org     ------- United Hope for Animals (UHA) is a volunteer group and does not have a facility for animals.  This pet is part of our Shelter Support Program at the Baldwin Park Shelter. Story
Meet Meep! A spirited one-and-a-half-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog currently in Oakland, CA, whose essence is a whirlwind of playful charm wrapped in a stunning merle coat and powered by puppy-sized curiosity. Meep is a big-hearted 90 pound pup with a big future! He’s the kind of companion who makes every day feel like recess, with boundless energy, a contagious grin, and a serious love for belly rubs. Meep lives for zooming around the yard, soaking up attention, and gleefully interacting with people and pups who appreciate his enthusiastic approach to life. This sweet boy is both crate trained and house-trained, making him a solid addition to a home that can offer him structure, consistency, and lots of active time. He’s mastered “sit” like a pro, especially when there’s a treat or belly scratch involved, and he’s incredibly tuned in to his humans, always eager to learn and please! While Meep is still working on leash manners (a little leash reactivity pops up now and then), with positive reinforcement and regular walks, he’s well on his way to being a stellar walking buddy. Meep gets along especially well with small dogs and adores young children, showing a gentle and goofy side that melts hearts. With larger dogs, he can be a bit much, especially if they’re not into his puppy playstyle, so a home where he's the only large do (or with tolerant, playful companions) would be a great fit. He would thrive in a space with a fenced yard where he can stretch those long legs and burn off some energy between cuddle sessions. Playful, affectionate, and endlessly trainable, Meep is looking for a guardian who understands the joy (and the challenge) of raising a big, bouncy pup. He needs someone ready to guide him with kindness, keep him engaged, and enjoy the ride of watching him grow into the loyal, loving dog he’s meant to be. Are you ready to meet the happy whirlwind that is Meep and help him write his next great adventure? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com today!

Story
Meet Harrison! A dignified eight-year-old Vizsla currently living in Corte Madera, CA, whose golden rust coat radiates warmth and beauty, just like his heart. Harrison is a loving, playful companion who thrives on human connection and adores chasing balls, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying the thrill of a good run. At 62 pounds, he’s a large yet gentle soul who’s happiest when he’s part of a family’s daily life. Harrison has mastered commands like sit, paw, come, and no, thanks to his formal obedience training. His favorite activities include backyard games of fetch and chewing on durable rubber toys, and he’s a fan of daily walks and a cozy bed for his naps. Despite being a medium-energy dog, Harrison loves a steady routine of exercise and mental engagement, including his cherished two-mile walks several times a week. Harrison’s personality is a mix of affectionate loyalty and playful curiosity. He’s a constant companion who finds joy in being by your side and is friendly when meeting new people. However, Harrison is a dog who needs a little extra understanding. He feels uneasy in tight spaces or around large objects like boxes, and in moments of high stress, he has bitten when he felt cornered or overwhelmed. While Harrison is not mean or aggressive, these reactions stem from fear and discomfort rather than malice. He simply needs a caregiver who recognizes his triggers, provides him with space, and reassures him so he can feel safe and secure. Harrison would do best in a home with no small children, as their unpredictable movements and energy can overwhelm him. While Harrison enjoys select canine friendships, he’s not compatible with cats. His perfect home will be one where he’s the center of attention. A loving, patient family who understands his quirks and is eager to celebrate his many wonderful qualities is exactly what Harrison needs. Vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, house-trained, and crate-trained, Harrison is ready for a fresh start with a family who will cherish his unconditional love and playful spirit. To make sure that Harrison has a great start with his new family, we have a canine behaviorist available for a free consultation. If you’re ready to welcome Harrison into your life, please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com today! Are you the caring family Harrison is waiting for to share his loyalty, love, and zest for life?
