Story
OBSERVED BY SHELTER STAFF:Vesta is a bit shy here at the shelter. She’s trying the best she can to cope with shelter life; the sooner she can find a home, the better. She walks okay on the leash and knows the sit command is and treat-motivated and gentle when taking from your hand. When she sees cats, she gets nervous and backs away. She is neutral toward the other dogs here at the shelter. Weighs 58 pounds; $25 to adopt.

Story
Lagoona is an affectionate, social puppy who loves dogs and people alike! Since she is still a puppy she is going to need help learning her basic commands and with potty training. Lagoona would thrive in a family setting, or with anyone who can give her the attention she craves. She has done well meeting other dogs at the shelter, and participating in play groups. We do think she would chase a cat, but that can be fixed with training. 7 months old. Intact female. $50 to adopt

Story
Madison 703-344-6139Tippy is a huge sweetheart and deserves the BEST new family. She’s intelligent, friendly, goofy, cuddly, super trainable, and loves the outdoors. Her entire history is known as I’ve known her since she was a puppy. Strengths: 1. Excellent recall; also trained on e-collar for back-up recall. 2. Knows “sit,” “down,” and “stay” very well (still practicing “place”). If you enforce it, she knows to sit at the threshold of a door and wait to be released before continuing through. 3. Dream outdoor dog! She loves hiking and camping. Could be an ideal trail running or backpacking companion. 4. Tires from mental stimulation (e.g. training, sniffing) on low-exercise days. 5. Passive- as the runt of her litter, she is extremely passive, has never escalated a fight with other dogs, has never come close to hurting my cat despite multiple opportunities. Challenges: 1. Busy nose- loves the freedom to sniff and follow her nose freely. Loose leash walking is our biggest challenge for this reason. She’s come a long way but will continue to need practice! She knows “heel” well, but loses focus when over-stimulated by traffic, people, etc. 2. Minor separation anxiety- nervous when left alone uncrated, but snoozes calmly and quietly all day while crated on workdays. Reasons for re-homing: 1. She deserves more outdoor space than my apartment can offer her. 2. My resident cat has not warmed up.

Story
Meet Copper!Observed by shelter staff:Copper is a 9 month old intact male bloodhound mix who is large in size. Copper is a friendly dog but right now shelter life is making him feel scared. He came in with another dog and they got along well but the other dogs here are scary to him. He also seems to be afraid of cats. Copper seems to be house trained, likes to play with toys, and is very gentle when taking treats. We recommend a home with older dog savvy children because he does not like to be restrained/hugged. Shelter life is hard for a lot of dogs, especially dogs like Copper. He needs a home with a slow approach to help him relearn that the world isn`t as scary as it seems. $25 to adopt 58 pounds/medium-large
