Name:    Paso       Best Guess for Breed:    Coonhound mix   Best Guess for Age:    2 years as of Sept. 2024        Gender:    Female Approximate Weight:    44 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Paso with cats or kids, but she can be tested! Currently Living At:   DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Paso  is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! She's currently waiting for her forever home at a shelter in South Carolina, where she's stealing hearts with her soulful eyes and gentle demeanor. Paso is a perfect blend of elegance and charm, ready to embark on new adventures with a loving family who can appreciate her playful spirit and loyal nature. Paso’s hound instincts shine through in her love for exploring and following scents, making her an ideal companion for outdoor adventures, long walks, or even cozy days in the yard. She’s full of affection and would love nothing more than to curl up next to you after a day of play. Meet June. She is a UKC Purple Ribbon Redbone Coonhound. She does great on a leash and loves going hiking/walks. June loves to play especially chasing balls. June needs daily exercise for 15-30 minutes. Once she burns off that energy she is very laid back. June is definitely a lover and loves to be pet and hugged.

Such wonderful, loving, goofy dogs. And here is Hank, sweet right down to his red feet. How could he ever have made it into a rescue and not be beloved by his family? Well, Hank was born into a hunting family , but he refused to hunt. He didn't want to hurt any other animal! So, sweetness or not, he had to go. Here is what his foster has to say about him; 'Hank, low key calm guy. Not bothered by other dogs at all. Doesn’t seem to have much of a prey drive.' He just wants to be a good ole boy and be loved. Because he is a hound, we are asking that his adopter have a physical fence to keep his nose from following any special scents. Hank alos needs another friendly dog to help him get comfortable in his new home. We have made sure he has all his shots , so he is ready to be your own special boy. He promises to make you laugh when he runs about in your backyard or on a walk with those big ears flapping in the breeze. Ready for fun? He is known to be somewhat of an escape artist, a true hound. When he isn’t running around outside he does like to chill and lay around.
