Story
Rags may be little but he sure is mighty! This feisty little guy was rescued from a high kill shelter. He is looking for an active family that can give him lots of daily exercise and training. With his favourite people he will jump us for some pets and love. However, Rags is looking for an experienced home that will continue his training and management with resource guarding. Rags can bite when guarding food or objects. Due to this he will need an adult-only family who can work with our trainers to provide a smooth transition to his forever home. Although Rags is generally good with dogs he can be unpredictable with guarding around animals, so he would do best as the only pet in the home. His favourite things include going for long walks on sunny days, and running around in the yard. He is treat motivated and loves to learn new things with a clicker.

Story
LEONA is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Leona whom we call Nona, is apx 7-8 years young and weighs 18 pounds. She has gotten a tad chunky here with us and probably could stand to lose a pound or two. She is a rat terrier. Very smart, walks well on leash, appears potty trained. Good with other dogs but will let a younger hyper dog know when she has had enough playing and will growl. She is a confident dog with other dogs, not submissive but not overly dominant either. She tends to act like the stern grandmother of group. She likes to play and have a good time but when it is time for a nap and to watch her shows she wants to be left alone 😂. She couldn't care less about the cats, but would probably growl at them if they tried to eat her food. Nona is not food aggressive with her dry food but gets a bit persnickety with her wet food or special treats. Nona is great with all people and children, very gentle. She has been around young children before as the people who found her had two young boys and Nona liked them very much. Nona’s rescue story is quite comical. Some people ordered a Pizza. The app said the pizza was delivered but there was no pizza on the step. After checking the ring cam, they discovered a stray dog took off with the entire box, large pizza included. The stray dog then ran into the neighbors garage with her stolen pizza and was found eating it. Those people ended up keeping the stray, now known as Nona for a few days until finding her a rescue. She came to us thin, a very bad coat, very dirty, she needed to be spayed, her teeth were all either falling out or broken and she was heart worm positive. 3 months and a couple thousand dollars later, Nona has recovered and is ready for a home where she does not have to steal a pizza. She had a dental, she had her heart worm treatment and went through treatment with zero issues. She is a well mannered girl. She acts very much like a rat terrier in many ways but she does not have a prey drive. She is bossy in the morning about breakfast time. We tried to break this habit to no avail. She wants her breakfast. On time!! No fussing around LOL. She is an older girl that had a hard life. She deserves a second chance and a family that adores her and her weird rat terrier ways 🙂 To get approved please visit our website www.texaschihuahuarescuecanada.org to fill in an application to adopt. Story
Mila is a 2 year old terrier/hound mix (likely JRT & Beagle) weighing approx 27 lbs. She loves her humans very much and is very playful and affectionate with them. Mila did not start her life off in a bad way but she did miss out on training, boundaries and socialization. For this reason, Mila has spent time with a professional trainer who has fallen in love with her. Unfortunately, there are limits to the number of dogs a person can have! She loves the outdoors and play time! She’s a very active girl and would do great with a dominant larger dog, she can be too rambunctious for a small dog. Mila is an excellent girl at home when you have to go out, just make sure you have the perfect window for her to neighborhood watch from! She is obviously a high energy girl but likes nothing more than to be tucked in beside her person on the couch!! She gives great hugs and kisses!! Mila will require an experienced owner and home without children under the age of 7. She loves kids but is still learning boundaries. Her adopter will be able to take advantage of some professional advise from her trainer in order to keep Mila improving. Training consistency will be key to keeping Mila on track with her progression. Mila is currently being fostered in Newmarket, ON. If you are interested in adopting Mila, please complete an application on our website: https://www.jrnc.org/adoption-application
