Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Suki is a very calm and sweet 3 year old, tiny gal. At 10lbs, she's the smallest girl in our rescue! She is very calm and sweet. She wants to sit on your lap all day. She is learning to walk on a leash and she is going very well. She is doing great at potty training. She loves kids. She is well behaved on outings, and gets along very well with all the pets in her foster home.  She will let a little jealous growl when she's on foster mom's lap and another dog climbs up, or when another dog wants to share the same bed, but she never takes it any further. She’s wonderful. Suki is adorable, charming, and so loving. She will steal your heart!Like any of our dogs, this sweetheart would make a great addition to an active home that will provide love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation.  Because of that, Suki's ideal owner will have prior experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Suki's adoption fee is $375, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 30, 2025, 11:14 am

Sadie is a loving dog who thrives on time and attention. She is also very active and enjoys walks and play time. She does not thrive in a small living area. Sadie has been with me for 7 years and I am so sad to need to rehome her. She has not health issues that I know of and has always gotten along with other dogs in the past. She also is good around kids.

Story
Meet Max – The Spicy Senior with a Heart of Gold! Hi my name is Max, and I may be between 11 and 12 years young, but don’t let my age fool you—I’ve still got plenty of pep in my paws (yes, I still get the zoomies!). I’m a charming terrier mix that finds all the joy and happiness in the world and just need a forever family to share it with! I weigh between 25-30 pounds and life sure threw me a curveball recently when my lifelong human had to give me up due to tough circumstances. But I’m ready to start a new chapter in a forever, loving home where I can enjoy my golden years in peace and comfort. Here’s the lowdown on me: I LOVE going for walks (my favorite activity!), belly rubs, and just being by your side. I'm told I'm just an easy dog to love! I’m a people person through and through—take me for a pup cup or give me treats and you'll win my heart! I’m fine with kids that are dog appropriate and have manners --kind of like I do! I must say naps, sunbathing, and maybe sharing a porch with another chill dog buddy would be delightful. I do get a little protective of my food—it’s nothing personal, just a polite “paws off” warning. But I will sit and wait for you to give me the ok to eat instead of just jumping in. I’m in great health and have been well cared for my whole life—no meds, no issues, just a spunky loving soul in a senior body! Max is ready to be someone’s loyal shadow and cuddle buddy. If you're looking for a sweet, soulful companion to share quiet days and peaceful walks with, Max is your guy. He is potty-trained, good with dogs and cats, and can be left alone while you are away. Help him live out his retirement in the love-filled home he deserves by filling out an application at www.HavenAnimalRescueNebraska.com. This fantastic boy will fill your heart with so much love and companionship, if you just give him a chance!   ADOPTION DONATION: $225 *All dogs must be inside companion animals. They are neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, HW tested and preventatives given.   PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you.  Thank you for choosing adoption!! May 22, 2025, 10:50 pm
