Story
Hi there, I'm Holly! I'm young and full of life. My days are filled with boundless energy, running around and playing with toys. I'm a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly. I'm a sweet girl, always ready to give a friendly wag of my tail or a gentle nuzzle to anyone who needs it. I may be in a shelter now, but I dream of a forever home where I can share all my love and energy. Why should you adopt me? Well, I promise to be your loyal friend, your confidante, your playmate, and your cuddle buddy. I'll bring joy, love, and a dash of fun into your life. Adopt me, and let's start our adventure together! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop   ##2380741##

Story
Hi, I'm Lucy Drew and I am a senior lady. I was adopted from this shelter 5 years ago but was recently found as a stray with no owner coming forward. I'm looking for a place to rest for my golden days. I seem to do fine with other dogs and I love to go for car rides. I really am just looking for someone to be around.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story
Hello there, I’m Hot Dog! But you can call me Hot Digity if you’re feeling extra friendly. I’m a senior fella, 13 pounds, 15 years old, and I’m looking for a quiet, loving home where I can relax, snuggle, and be the good boy I am.I’ve had a bit of a rough start, coming from a hoarding situation, but I’m healthy and happy now, thanks to my wonderful foster mom. I’ve had a couple of surgeries recently—cherry eye surgery, a dental cleaning, and some extractions, but don’t worry, I’m feeling good! I eat soft food and small kibble just fine, and I’m pretty easy-going about it all.I may be an older guy, but I still enjoy meeting new people (humans, that is—I’m not too sure about other dogs, especially if they don’t understand my cute little grunt-growl when I’m getting all snuggly). My foster mom’s dogs don’t really get me, but I’m cool with other dogs as long as they’re respectful of my personal space. I like to take it easy, resting and enjoying my snuggles, but I do bark when someone unfamiliar comes by. That’s just my way of saying, “Hey, who’s there?”I’m crate trained and a good listener, very attentive to my foster mom’s requests. I’m still working on my potty training, but I’m making great progress. I walk well on a leash now, and I love to meet new humans. My foster mom says I’m a good dog and that she wishes we had more one-on-one time, but I’m happy with whatever I get, as long as I get my snuggles!I’m heartworm positive, and doing the slow kill method so it’s easier on me. I just want to live out my golden years in a clean, loving environment where I can feel safe and cherished. So, if you’re looking for a quiet companion who just wants to be your best friend, I might be the one for you. I’m ready for my second chance. Could you be my person?*My adoption fee is partially sponsored to help me find a loving forever home!*IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.May 5, 2025, 11:29 am

Story
Elke is an 8-year-old, 12-pound Rat Terrier who is looking for a loving home where she can be the center of attention – or rather, the shadow of her person. This little lady may take a bit of time to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, you'll have a loyal companion for life. Though Elke is a bit wary of men, she adores her humans and enjoys being by their side every step of the way. Elke is incredibly fast and loves to run, so a home with a physically fenced yard is a must. She has a strong prey drive and loves to chase anything that moves, so she’d do best in a household without cats or small children. As a true terrier, Elke has a natural instinct to hunt small animals, and her speed makes her quite the little athlete! While she’s independent, Elke loves to cuddle up with her person, especially if there's a warm blanket involved. She’s always a bit chilly and will happily wear a sweater to stay cozy. Her favorite spot is curled up in bed with her human, soaking in all the warmth she can get. Elke is also housetrained and gets along well with other dogs her size, but she's not a fan of larger dogs. If you're looking for a small, spunky, and loving companion who will follow you everywhere, Elke might just be the perfect match! Elke is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped. She recently had her teeth cleaned, too. If you would like to meet Elke, please go to our website at www.furfunrescue.org and fill out the adoption application. If you have questions about the adoption process or about Elke you can contact rox@furfunrescue.org or call 319-929-6657. Indoor homes only. Adopters within 2 hours of Cedar Rapids, IA only, please. Elke’s adoption fee is $300.
