Story
Full of energy and enthusiasm, Rocky is is an eager-to-please 5-year-old rat terrier/chihuahua mix who is very motivated by affection. He's a super snuggle buddy, a feisty playmate, and an avid leash walker. He LOVES to run around the yard, chase his toys, play tug-of-war, and soak up all the attention you can provide. He thrives on any kind of physical contact, even coat brushing and dental hygiene! Rocky proved how smart he is when he became a star student in his recent training class. He knows many verbal cues, like sit, lie down, off, and place. He is reliably house-trained, rides well in the car, and has nice manners. Despite all of Rocky's charm and devotion to his family, he is challenged by his anxiety around new people and larger dogs. He may weigh only 17 lbs., but his feistiness makes encounters with strangers (both human and canine) loud and tense. Although he generally gets along with other dogs his size or smaller, he does get jealous and territorial in his home environment, so Rocky needs to be an only dog. Cats fascinate him and he's driven to chase them, so he also needs a feline-free home. It's important that strangers who don't want to risk being nipped don't try to make friends with Rocky too quickly. It takes him some time to develop enough trust in new people to show them his happy, affectionate, fun-loving side but once he does, he will turn into a warm cuddle buddy. Rocky yearns for a new home with more space to run, fewer stressors, and lots of positive interaction with his trusted humans. His idea of heaven is a home with a fenced yard and no other animals competing for resources or your attention. In an adult-only home with 'parents' who mostly stay home and have few visitors, Rocky will be happy, utterly devoted, affectionate, obedient, and engaging. That's the real Rocky! With your understanding and determination to reduce the stress and anxiety in Rocky's life, he'll become your most faithful companion.
