Story
Hi my name is Smokey.  I am a super sweet and very active 1 year old Rat Terrier mix who weighs 11 lbs.  I am so greatful to Critter Cavalry and happy to be in the care of my foster mom Dawn.  I have gone through a lot in my short life.  My original family adopted me as a puppy.  They did not have a fenced in yard and just let me run around wherever I wanted.  Well one day I did not get out of the way quick enough and got hit by a car.  The people just drove off.  Fortuately my family came to get me immediately.  I was so distraught as both of my back legs were broken.  My family spent a lot of money trying to get me well but could not afford physical therapy on top of everything else.  Soon my legs began to hurt and I had trouble walking.  A neighbor knew of Critter Cavalry and  that is how I got here.  I have had additional surgery and excelled in my physical therapy.  I am now ready to find my forever home.  I have a blast with the other 2 small dogs in my foster home.  They played a very important part in my recovery.  I want to keep my muscles strong and my hips working properly so I need a home with another small dog my age and size to be my exercise buddy.  No big dogs for me please.  I am scared of them and bark at them.  I am a great little guy who is housebroken to a doggie door and crate trained.  I love to go for walks and love to run around in our fenced in yard and play games in the house.  If you are an active family and already have one little active girl or guy then you are the family for me.  I have been neutered and am current on all my shots and microchipped.  To be considered for my forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (I am currently in Tennessee and can be transported to my forever home upon adoption.)February 17, 2025, 9:25 pm

Story
Our B litter is ready for adoption! This sweet litter of pups are about 9-10 weeks, born around mid-November 2024. These puppies are some of the lucky ones – a good Samaritan saw a mangy, starving dog eating scrap someone threw out in a back corner of a Mexican restaurant by a dumpster. She couldn’t turn away. The good Samaritan was going to just help mom, when she realized mom looks to have just had puppies. It’s like the momma dog knew someone was there to help, and she turned away from the scrap food and started walking down the street. The good Samaritan followed this momma dog for almost 2 miles to a home, where when they walked up, 7 puppies came running out from under the house (see video!) The homeowner didn’t claim mom or puppies, nor did she want anything to do with them. She refused to feed them or offer them shelter. It took some time, but after a few days, we were able to get all 7 pups and mom to safety. Mom is about 32 lbs and has a wire-hair coat, we have named her Lainey and she will also be available for adoption soon. We do not know who dad is. We believe pups will vary in size with the 2 runts (Baby ad Belle) staying smaller than the others – but generally we believe they will stay around 40 lbs. Please keep in mind that these puppies had minimal human interaction until a few weeks ago, but they are now in their prime age for impression, training and growing in a home to learn from. They all would do wonderfully with well-behaved children, other dogs and cats. They did not chase stray cats at the home they were at and they LOVE other dogs. Here’s a breakdown of the litter and some information on each one: All weights are as of 1/19/25 Baby – Male Runt – 7.5 lbs – Black and white (tri color) – Semi wirehair and very short hair – does not seem to shed much, if at all – Very playful. Very outgoing. Fun to watch play as he is so much tinier than the other pups. Daring. First pup to try anything. Aims to please. Wants to be next to you and get lots of love and love you. All homes would be ideal, all ages of children would be great for Baby. Belle – Female Runt – 4.4 lbs – Black and White – Wirehair – Does not seem to shed – She is quite timid but friendly and does come around. Will make the best baby. She defends herself against all the other bigger pups. Fierce and won’t let anyone pick on her. Is learning to play with toys. Could be a lap dog with lots of patience. Minimal-mild active home that is patient. Beau – Male – 10.2 lbs – Brown and White – Wirehair – Does not seem to shed – Needs someone with some patience. He is a bit timid and would rather watch everyone else play before joining. He would do best with another dog in the home. Beau is learning to trust people and his surroundings. Minimal-Mild Active home that is patient. Bree – Female – 11.4 lbs – Black and White – Short hair, minimal shedding – She is a hoot to have around. She loves to talk to you and is very vocal. She doesn’t mind telling you how she feels. She’s more of a leader and she keeps all the other puppies in check and in their place. If any of them start bickering, Bree will be there to break it up. She’s not afraid to test the waters and try anything new. A bit shorter of legs and stocky build. A more active home is preferred. Blue – Male – 12.4 lbs – Black and White – Short hair, minimal shedding – This gentle giant boy is so sweet. He is the biggest of the litter. He is very curious but won’t try anything first. He will stand back and watch. He is learning to trust humans and his surroundings. Very smart. Blue would be great with another dog to teach him or someone willing to put in the time and patience for training and socialization. Would love someone to force cuddles on him so he can learn to fully love people. Not a mean bone in his body. Mildly active home ideal, with patience. Biscuit – Male – 11.1 lbs – Brown and White – Wire Hair – Does not seem to shed – This lover boy is the most timid of the group of pups. The foster left him with his mom so she can help build his confidence and not be bullied by his siblings. He is very submissive. Needs a family or person that is patient, kind and understands he does need socialization and lots of love. Ideally no young children given how timid he is. Bear – Male – 11.3 lbs – Black and White – Short hair, minimal shedding – One of the most outgoing pups of the litter! He is one of the few that came around super quickly and is super lovable, huggable and amazing all around. He LOVES to be held in your arms and rocked like a baby or just carried around. He would rather be with you than anywhere else. His next favorite thing is belly rubs. He will roll over in a heartbeat to get some belly rubs and stay there until you can’t anymore. He is a very relaxed pup and doesn’t run around too much. Chill. Mildly active home and all age children would be perfect. All of these puppies will make wonderful and loyal companions. Please watch the video to see mom when she was first found, to when the good Samaritan found the house, to the puppies safe and sound and enjoying their first toys. All puppies are current on age appropriate vaccinations, preventions, dewormer, microchipped and will receive a clean bill of health from a veterinarian prior to receiving the animal. Story
Junior is a sweet, snuggly, 8-year-old 19 lb. terrier-chihuahua mix. He arrived from the shelter with a fractured pelvis that seemed to heal on its own, just a bit crooked, but he went from guarding his left leg at the shelter to being completely weaned off any meds while in foster care! Even though he probably had an unfortunate encounter with a car, he has normal musculature on both hind legs. Junior's confidence continues to increase with lots of daily walks as his physical therapy-- he can walk 2+ miles at a time and has just started using the wood stairs inside with stair treads! Junior is happy to be getting two meals a day, so much so that his prey drive is greatly reduced. He will love to snuggle next to you on the sofa and delights to go on walks. While walking, if you keep a brisk pace, he will keep up with you, but if you slow down, he might just take the opportunity to roll in the grass- especially when it is warm outside.  Junior gets along with his foster siblings but can still be a bit unpredictable when meeting new dogs outside. He might bark outside when he sees things ahead (people or dogs) but is easily redirected and is learning that many neighbors give scratches and he will sit politely at their feet taking it all in. Junior is still learning to play with toys. As a big bonus- he is almost completely house-trained! Junior's best home is one where he is the only pup, and his humans are home most of the time. He is crate-trained but would prefer not to be crated. He has been very good with children in the neighborhood, giving kisses and taking treats, but because of his injury, would probably be best in a home without small children. Due to his asymmetrical pelvis with some limited range of motion in his left leg, we are looking for a local adopter who is able to meet handsome, sweet Junior. You can see more photos and videos of him at https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/junior . Beginning March 1, 2025, our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs or $300 for puppies under 6 months old. Want to meet ME?* Come to our adoption event this weekend: Sunday, March 9th from 11:30-1:30 Dulles Landing Petsmart, 24570 Dulles Landing Dr. #140, Dulles, VA 20166 Only Canines & Kitties Rescue pre-approved adopters will be able to bring a dog/puppy/cat/kitten home from the adoption event. Please apply a few days (or more) ahead of the event to allow time for processing. We hope to see you on Sunday!!! *Dog/Cat attendance is not guaranteed. Feel free to text the event coordinator to confirm a specific dog/cat's attendance: 703-447-4766 IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON PETFINDER OR ADOPT-A-PET, please visit: Caninesandkittiesrescue.org to access adoption requirements, more information and pictures. Meet Oakley: Oakley is about 7 months old and weighs 18 lbs. We think she looks like a Rat Terrier/Feist mix (JUST A GUESS). Oakley is absolutely the sweetest pup ever. She is so loving and just wants to please. Oakley is great with other dogs, but we have no idea on cats. Oakley loves all people and while she is not in a foster home with children we think she would do just fine with children of all ages. Oakley is learning how to walk on leash so for right now she will require a home with a large fenced yard so she can get her exercise. Oakley has not had any accidents so far in her foster home. Oakley does well with being crated for 2-3 hours. Oakley would do best in a home where she is not alone all day and would love another playful dog to play with. Oakley will be spayed on March 17th. She is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. The Adoption Fee is $400.00 ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs and/or all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. **Please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**

Story
If you are in search of a loving, yet active little dog, then you have found just the right girl!  Bonnie is a young, one year old, 18 pound, Jack Russell who is spunky and happy and oh so cuddly.  She is the total package of smart, quick to learn, and easy to love.  Bonnie is a little shy when you first meet her, but we guarantee she will warm up fast. She loves to play with other dogs and pull out all the toys at the foster home. And what a cuddle bug she is who longs to be someone’s very special little girl.  She is still working on her house training, but is crate trained for short periods.  No, 8 hour long crate time will work for her.  As you can imagine with an active dog, a fenced in yard would work best.  Bonnie would also love to have her new family home most of the time because she loves her people.  We are recommending that she be with an active family as she loves to see new sights and is ready for travel adventures and car rides.  She is on the go and ready to love you!  Bonnie is your girl if you are checking all her boxes.  Please write to ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested.  Please mention where you live:  city and state.  She is currently in Nashville, Tn with Critter Cavalry Rescue and we transport to the northeast on weekend.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comFebruary 26, 2025, 8:42 pm

Story
When you love the Jack Russell breed of dog then you try to find that pure love to adopt.  Well Clyde is a very sweet dog but yet he is the shy type that will be oh so loving of a boy that will make you feel like you the most special person in the world.  He is just a year old and 17 pounds and he loves to play with toys that squeak and crunch. He is an active Jack Russell breed that needs a fenced in yard so he can run around and play with others safely. When it comes to cuddles….we all love that with our dogs, Clyde gives you the best cuddles that results when you “sit” he wants to be in your lap.  We will admit that he is not totally house trained and so that is a work in progress. He is crate trained as long as not being left for long hours cause of his age.   He walks on a leash as amateur but worked with it. He loves to go for long walks and see new things.   When it comes to feeling secure with a family, he is Ok with children who are respectable and who want to give him gentle and loving hugs. The Jack Russell breed is an active and vibrant one of colorful moods and playful antics.  They can be loving and snuggly and then zooming around the backyard with the energy that you wish you still had in your body.  They are invigorating and challenging to kind of up your anty so to speak.  They can help  you be more determined every day to be more focused and productive.   We love the active dogs that bring a zest to the pace of life and an intelligence that will keep you thinking great thoughts and making great strides in life.  If you are interested in Clyde the Slyde… please email at ccrtennessee@gmail.com and let us know where you live and a little more about yourself and why a JRT like Clyde is right up your alley!   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMarch 7, 2025, 10:13 pm
