Story
Dog Name: Milo
Breed: Rat Terrier Mix
Sex: Male, Neutered
Age: 4 months (dob 7/10/2024)
Weight: 9.8 lbs
Medical Needs: None.
Housebroken: No. While in his foster home, we focused on getting Milo to be comfortable with using the bathroom outside. Considering his past trauma with his previous location prior to arriving in Delaware and with being a puppy, he'll definitely need someone with patience to help him with getting there to being housebroken. It'll be an ongoing working process.
Crate trained: Working progress. We've been working on getting him more comfortable with needing to sometimes go into a crate. He will go into a crate when the need comes. Again, considering his past trauma with his previous location prior to arriving in Delaware's, if he's placed in his crate and doesn't see anyone, he will definitely voice that he's uncomfortable and not happy about being in the crate, with not being in the eyesight of seeing someone. He'll need someone with patience that will give him time to adjust and reassure him that he's safe and loved.
Good in the car: He's been in a car two times. Both times he laid down in his seat and enjoyed the ride.
Good on a leash: Yes. He enjoys going for a walk. But still working on the appropriate rules to walking, requires his new family to be cautious, and patient when walking him. Please know with Milo wanting to be close to you (even during walks), the leash is an instant tripping hazard.
Energy Level: Medium puppy energy with his very lovable self.
Need a fenced in yard: Not necessarily, he's currently in a foster home without a fenced in yard. But eventually will probably enjoy/love an area where he can get out and run around in. But with his small stature, will definitely need to be watched when in a yard.
Dog Friendly: Yes, he loves being around another dog. In his current foster home, he has been around and played with another 8-month Schnauzer mix puppy.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its new home? No, Milo does not need another dog in his new home.
Cat Friendly? Unknown, as in his current foster home, there aren't any cats. However, with being a puppy, I'm sure he would do fine with slow introductions.
Kid Friendly: Yes... absolutely.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? In Milo's current foster home, his foster brother is 7yrs old and again due to his age and size, it's recommended that supervision is needed with any child of any age.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Considering Milo's past trauma with his previous location prior to arriving in Delaware, it's absolutely amazing how much Milo has progressed in less than a week. Milo went from constantly shivering, being scared, wanting to stay in his cage, not eating, and being afraid to do about everything to now using the bathroom outside, barking, no longer shivering, looking forward to every moment to get out his cage, running around the house&yard to chase all the leaves, and eating next to his 4-legged foster sister. Milo absolutely enjoys chasing leaves or anything blowing in front of him, but also has moments that frightens him when he's discovering his new surroundings. Milo's progress shows once he is in his FURever home, knows that he's safe and loved, he's not going to be difficult to train. He enjoys cuddles, being loved, and absolutely deserves all the hugs, love, and cuddles that he can get. His black and white pattern throughout his body has a very interesting layout, especially when you look further down his back to his tail to find black sporadic spots, that you'll actually find smaller (resembles human "birth marks") ones speckled on his two front legs. He also enjoys belly rubs. There's no doubt that whatever family gets Milo as there next family addition is going to instantly fall in love with his handsome, small stature self. With all that he has overcome so far in life, being a puppy, and needing to be taught how to be comfortable enough to learn everything is going to require his new family to let him know he's safe with them, definitely have a lot of patience to understand he's already experienced some trauma, provide time, and dedication to Milo. While in his foster home, focus was helping Milo to feel comfortable and safe, so he still needs to work on his potty training, as when Milo approaches any door he instantly gets scared. He needs a family that will love on him, adore him, and give him the needed attention for him to grow into his best, amazing, handsome self because he absolutely deserves all of that and more!
