Story
Meet Skipper!-7 year old male rat terrier -Came to the Shelter as a stray-Staff have observed that he is amiable and easy going in personalityCurrently in a foster home with a dog savvy person and their resident female dog. Foster parent has observed that Skipper is sweet and calm in the home. He is neutral meeting strangers - saying hi then exploring the environment. After meeting the resident dog and the novelty wearing off, Skipper is coexisting nicely. The resident kitties are too fun to chase so a feline free home is recommended. Skipper loves head massages and going for walks. Despite his age - he has a good pace for someone looking for a walking buddy. With adequate potty breaks and management - Skipper is on his way to being house trained. He has met strangers - from children to elderly and has done well. Skipper is not interested in playing with toys and much prefers to go on sniffaris. Now through December 23rd – the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is hosting “Home for the Holidays”. This adoption event reduces the adoption fee for all cats, rabbits and dogs to $50.Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Looks like: Rat Terrier mix Female, 7 years old (estimated), 10 pounds Harley may only have one eye, but she's not letting anything slow her down! This spunky girl has an incredibly fun-loving attitude and is always ready for playtime, snuggle time, dinner time, and every time in between. She greets every adventure with the sweetest wagging tail. Her perfect day would be going for a nice stroll, playing with her pals, tossing around her favorite squeaky toy, and snoozing the afternoon away in your lap. Though Harley is a pretty wonderful pup her ideal home would be child free as she can be easily startled by the tiny humans. She loves dogs but being that she's a queen bee she prefers the submissive type. We have not yet had the opportunity to see how she is with cats. Her adopter would need to be familiar with the chihuahua and terrier breed or be willing to learn about them in order to properly address her needs. This sweet girl joined us after she was brought into Hitchcock Road Animal Services as a stray in serious need of medical care for a prolapsed eye.

Story
Looks like: Rat Terrier mix Female, 12 years old (estimated), 10 pounds This precious little lady has really blossomed since going to her foster home. Her foster reports that she has been an absolute pleasure to have around and is surprised everyday that she has not yet been adopted. Some of her favorite things include napping the day away, going for slow sniff walks where she can truly stop and smell the roses, and greeting new canine friends politely on leash. She sleeps like an angel in her open door crate or comfy dog bed. Lavender does great with other pups and is very fond of the dogs in her foster home. She has had a dental that has left her with 5 healthy teeth so she mostly eats soft or wet food. This sweet girl joined us from the Santa Cruz County Animal Services so we could address her medical needs.

Story
Ginny  is super sweet and playful, especially with other dogs. She's a little skittish at first and takes a little while to warm up, but once she's comfortable with you, she is sweet, a champion snuggler, and an all-around great companion. Energy Level?  Medium House trained?  Yes Describe how they are on a leash. Does well on a leash. Likes to stop and smell all the smells. Describe how they are with other dogs?     Ginny plays nice with other dogs and has lived with other dogs; however, she would do well as your one and only.   She loves all the attention. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?  Ginny has been in home with a dog-savvy cat and did very well. Commands they know?  She comes when called.  What are their favorite things?  Playing with other dogs, chewing on toys and treats, and snuggling with her people. She also enjoys being outside and exploring our backyard. What do they need to work on?   Ginny  is still learning what's okay and not okay to chew. She'll need lots of toys that are safe for chewing and some patience and understanding while she figures it out.  How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone?  She has been alone for up to 8 hours and has been okay. She may howl briefly as we leave but then quiets down. She is generally happy in her crate and has a good view of all her foster fur siblings. Where do they sleep?  In a small crate in our bedroom. She sleeps well through the night and enjoys a morning snuggle in our bed when there's time. What is their ideal home?   Ginny 's perfect home includes at least one other similarly-sized dog because doggy playtime is her favorite thing. She'll need a family who can give her some time and space to get comfortable, as she can be pretty skittish initially. She'll also need patience as she learns what's okay to chew and what's not. Once she's comfortable with you and all settled in, she is an excellent companion and will reward you with epic snuggles and much love. Ginny should be in an adult only home. Story
COURTESY POST: Oskar is an adorable Rat Terrier mix, whose owner recently passed away. He now needs a new loving home in which to spend his golden years. He's a very healthy 12 year old, and would do best as an only dog, which is what he has been for his entire life. He's sweet and snuggly, and would love nothing better than to sit at your feet or cuddle on your couch. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and weighs about 20 pounds. He's currently living with a family member in Monterey, and only has about 30 to 60 days to find a new home. Please contact Sherry Owen at sherryowenrealtor@sbcglobal.net or 831.210.1830
