Story
Looks like: Rat Terrier, Chihuahua mix Female, 7 years old (estimated), 10 pounds Harley may only have one eye, but she's not letting that slow her down! This spunky girl has an incredibly fun-loving attitude and is always ready for playtime, snuggle time, dinner time, and every time in between! She's really so much fun! She greets every adventure with the sweetest wagging tail. Her perfect day would be going for a nice stroll, playing with her pals, tossing around her favorite squeaky toy, and snoozing the afternoon away in your lap. Harley specifically really loves rough housing with larger sized dogs! Though Harley is a wonderful pup, her ideal home would be child free as she can be easily startled by the tiny humans. She loves dogs but being that she's a queen bee she prefers to share her home with the submissive type. Harley is also searching for patient adopter that is willing to give her time to settle into her new home as the transition from foster to her new forever home can be quite stressful. This sweet girl joined us after she was brought into Hitchcock Road Animal Services as a stray in serious need of medical care for a prolapsed eye.

Story
Looks like: Rat Terrier mix Female, 12 years old (estimated), 10 pounds This precious little lady has really blossomed since going to her foster home. Her foster reports that she has been an absolute pleasure to have around and is surprised everyday that she has not yet been adopted. Some of her favorite things include napping the day away, going for slow sniff walks where she can truly stop and smell the roses, and greeting new canine friends politely on leash. She sleeps like an angel in her open door crate or comfy dog bed. Lavender does great with other pups and is very fond of the dogs in her foster home. She has had a dental that has left her with 5 healthy teeth so she mostly eats soft or wet food. This sweet girl joined us from the Santa Cruz County Animal Services so we could address her medical needs.

Story
Ginny  is super sweet and playful, especially with other dogs. She's a little skittish at first and takes a little while to warm up, but once she's comfortable with you, she is sweet, a champion snuggler, and an all-around great companion. Energy Level?  Medium House trained?  Yes Describe how they are on a leash. Does well on a leash. Likes to stop and smell all the smells. Describe how they are with other dogs?     Ginny plays nice with other dogs and has lived with other dogs; however, she would do well as your one and only.   She loves all the attention. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they?  Ginny has been in home with a dog-savvy cat and did very well. Commands they know?  She comes when called.  What are their favorite things?  Playing with other dogs, chewing on toys and treats, and snuggling with her people. She also enjoys being outside and exploring our backyard. What do they need to work on?   Ginny  is still learning what's okay and not okay to chew. She'll need lots of toys that are safe for chewing and some patience and understanding while she figures it out.  How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone?  She has been alone for up to 8 hours and has been okay. She may howl briefly as we leave but then quiets down. She is generally happy in her crate and has a good view of all her foster fur siblings. Where do they sleep?  In a small crate in our bedroom. She sleeps well through the night and enjoys a morning snuggle in our bed when there's time. What is their ideal home?   Ginny 's perfect home includes at least one other similarly-sized dog because doggy playtime is her favorite thing. She'll need a family who can give her some time and space to get comfortable, as she can be pretty skittish initially. She'll also need patience as she learns what's okay to chew and what's not. Once she's comfortable with you and all settled in, she is an excellent companion and will reward you with epic snuggles and much love. Ginny should be in an adult only home. Gingerbread was rescued from the shelter during the holiday season and we instantly knew he needed an invite to the DPS cookie exchange so we scooped him up on our sleigh and sped off into the sunset! He helped make our season bright and now he’s ready to head off to his forever home and keep the good times going! Gingerbread weighs 16 pounds and has amazing Dumbo ears that make him catch all the eyes as he walks down the block. Come enjoy a tasty treat and adopt Gingerbread!     Gingerbread is a caterpillar who is ready to find his home that will help him blossom into a butterfly. As he has grown more confident in his foster home, his personality has started to develop, showing us what an amazing dude he is. Gingerbread is more of a cat than a dog, as he finds warm spots to lounge the day away in as he chases the sunshine. Gingerbread is fairly independent but he did befriend the dad in the house and loves his cuddles. He would be an ideal fit for a home looking for quiet and loving companionship. Gingerbread is very treat motivated and eager to please so he has delighted in learning new things. While he is small, he can tackle any adventure you throw his way and has been exploring all the local hiking trails with his foster humans! However, at the end of the day our boy is a total couch potato who would love cuddling up and watching TV! This special boy will be the perfect companion for his human who finds him, we know it! Gingerbread wakes up around 6:30 AM and immediately requests cuddles from his foster humans. He goes out for potty before he has his breakfast. Following his morning meal, he lounges outside in the sunshine or on the couch. He goes on a morning walk around 10 AM and then cozies up under his blankets. He’s fairly content to snooze most of the day away until his afternoon walk followed by dinner around 6:30 PM. He hangs out on the couch or on his bed in the evening. After one last potty break around 10 PM he heads to his crate for the night. Gingerbread currently lives with two medium sized dogs and they coexist well. He is not super playful but they enjoy spending time together. Gingerbread walks well on a leash and enjoys his outings. His dream home is one willing to give him the patience and space he needs to blossom. He is still learning how to “dog” and will need a home who is understanding of his quirks. Gingerbread promises that if you give him a chance he will provide you a lifetime of delicious love!     Gingerbread is only an option for homes with shy dog experience. Adults only for Gingerbread.  January 25, 2025, 12:03 am
