Story
Please contact Cathleen (cathleen.pronc@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Http:/www.pugrescuenc.com/images/PRONC_Express.jpgupdate: The eye specialist has determined that Maya does not have glaucoma. It is severe dry eyes with pigmentary keratitis. This must be treated with prescription drops for life so she does not loose anymore vision. The medications have helped and Maya is seeing more. Current schedule one drop is 3 times a day and the other 4 times a day. This will best be managed at an eye specialist. This is a 15 year plus commitment. Maya needs a home with another small dog that likes to play. This will also help her gain confidence. Maya also needs a fenced yard as she will try to bolt if scared. Someone that is able to do the eye medication and follow ups at an eye specialist is absolutely essential.   So we have gotten in a new rescue pug. As you can see her eyes were neglected. Two vet visits, one at the eye specialist and we are still without answers as to exactly what we are dealing with. This poor girl who never had a name, spent all her days in a puppy mill making babies. Thankfully they decided to sell her. A Good Samaritan stepped up, paid her bail money, and broke her out to get her to us to get the care she needs. Please meet Maya who isn't even a year old yet! What we know she can only see light. No shapes or anything. She has severe pigmentary keratitis. She has this thick black pigmentation covering her eyes. They cannot even see in the back of her eye. The first vet did eye pressures which were 45 and 50. Normal is less than 25. Today they were normal… maybe that is because we started glaucoma meds or maybe the pigmentation gave a false reading. Hopefully we will get the answers next week at her recheck. She will need long term eye medication and possibly surgery, medial canthoplasty at the very least but the specialist is waiting to see her response to the drops. Either way she will be on LIFELONG prescription drops. We got her shots done, thankfully heartworm negative but she did have whip worms in her stool. So she is getting treatment for those. Maya will still need to be spayed and microchipped. Maya is scared but super sweet and is the happiest in your lap. Probably because she cannot see the world around her. This poor girl is not even 1 year old and suffered for that year. Her eyes are like having sandpaper rubbed on them. I know we all just donated for Max’s bill which we are still paying but if you would like to donate towards Maya’s bill. You are welcome to do so through the website or with paypal www.pugrescueofnc@gmail.com  Maya will be on medical hold until we have a handle on her eye needs and she is spayed. Her eyes will be a lifelong commitment with prescription drops. Thank you everyone for helping these very needy pugs. Like a lot puppy mill dogs and blind dogs, Maya would do better with older children as she spooks easily. She is not good around loud noises. She is good around other dogs that are laid back and easy going. She needs lots of time to adjust to a new environment and house training.    Maya is fostered in Virginia Beach, VA Her adoption fee will be $500.00 We are not making an adoption decisions on her at this time until we know her needs and she is ready for adoption.    ALL PUGS MUST BE INDOOR DOGS. They need to be on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We only adopt to states surrounding NC and VA.   Adopt A Pet. . .  Save A Life!http://www.apugrescue.org Http://www.pugrescuenc.org Email us:  admin@pugrescuenc.org      April 2, 2025, 9:55 pm

Story
Meet Flossy !! This girl is both cute and fun! She has unique smile and loves belly rubs. A really great addition to any family. Seems she was used to breed and then left at the shelter. Her milk was just drying up when we got her. Poor girl but at least now she has a chance to find a real family Flossy is an approx. 3 year old mix breed. Maybe pug or chi mixed in there. She currently weights 13 pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. She is heartworm negative. This sweet girl starts out a little shy and then quickly is attached to your side. She is very sweet and fun to have around. So far she has not been very loud and is always wanting to be by your side. Flossy does great with all dogs. She has been around large, small, young and old dogs and does great with them. She does however take some time to feel comfortable around new dogs. After a day or two she does wonderful. It just takes her some time to feel safe. She has never been around cats so we are not sure how she would do. She has been excellent with children. She loves them as long as they don’t treat her like a toy. She is crate trained and does great on car rides. She pulls a bit on the leash and needs some work with that. At her size it is still fairly easy to control her despite the pulling. She has done excellent with her potty training so far. She’s had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. Flossy loves to be held and loves to sit in your lap. She is happy to be carried around anywhere you go. She has a medium energy level. She is pretty happy just to sit with you but also has burst of energy. She is very fast when she gets the zoomies. Her foster says she is also been really good at coming to you when you call for her. She just got her name given to her through our naming raffle but responded to it immediately. It must have been close to whatever her name was in the past. Overall this cutie has a great personality and loves people. If you’re looking for a tiny dog that will cuddle and loves to be held then she may be the one. She has been so well behaved and loving. She is a really great dog. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response message the Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Bodhi is ready for adoption. He’s a 2-1/2 year old, 50 lb. Boston/Pit Bull mix who is housebroken, neutered and UTD on vaccines. Bodhi was aggressive towards other dogs. He even attacked a dog. Bodhi went through an intensive four-week board and train program with a professional trainer. He has not had an aggressive episode since completing training. He receives periodic sustainment training, and has even made some dog friends at the training facility. Bodhi and his foster dad enjoy walks through downtown Fredericksburg where they encounter hundreds of people, dogs, motorcycles, and other loud things. Bodie loves going to Home Depot and his behavior has been perfect. Everyone who meets Bodhi loves him because he’s so handsome and sweet. He is a favorite among his trainers. Bodhi will thrive in a home where he is an only pet and has room to play. Bodhi enjoys being close to his humans and loves being petted. He knows the heel command, walks at his foster’s side, and rarely notices other dogs now. Since he’s a young dog with lots of energy, Bodhi would benefit from having a fenced yard. Bodhi is fostered in Stafford, VA. If you feel you are the right family for Bodhi, please email odbtr1@gmail.com or bostonlover02@comcast.net to request a Word or PDF format application. ________________________________________

Story
per is ready to find her home. She’s a healthy 7 y/o, 17-pound girl who is spayed, housebroken and UTD on vaccines. Piper happens to be deaf but that doesn’t stop her from being a sweet and playful little girl. When she arrived, she was very fearful and reactive, and it took a while for her to warm up, but once she’s comfortable she will follow you around and jump up gently for pets. She can be a velcro dog and loves to snuggle up on the couch. Since Piper can be territorial around other dogs, she would be best as the only dog in an adult household. Piper feels safe in her crate and uses it as “her space” when she’s had enough family time and prefers her open crate as her nightly place to sleep. She is good with older children and since she cannot hear, a fenced yard is required, Requirements: Must have fence Child free or older children only Adopter must be a strong leader to guide Piper Should be the only dog or have adopters willing to take the time to slowly and properly introduce her to people and other pets Piper is fostered in Norfolk, VA. If you feel you are the right family for Piper and meet these requirements, please email odbtr1@gmail.com or bostonlover02@comcast.net to request a Word or PDF format application.

Story
Gypsy and Skylar, a bonded pair are ready to find their perfect home. Gypsy, the Old English Bulldog is 1-1/2 years old and 46 pounds. Skylar, the Boston Terrier is 2 years old and 17 pounds. Both are neutered and UTD on vaccines. They were not house trained when they came to us, but both are improving with the ongoing training. If they are taken outside on a regular schedule, accidents do not occur. They do great on a leash and love car rides. Both are kennel trained. As far as energy levels; Skylar is a go-go (full of energy) and Gypsy is a slow-go (couch potato). Skylar, in true Boston fashion, loves to run, jump and play with toys but when she’s ready for bed, she’s a snuggle bug. Gypsy, in true Bulldog fashion, enjoys leisurely walks and laying on the couch while chewing her favorite toy. Both are great with children as long as they’re old enough to withstand dogs that jump. They also get along with other dogs, but cats; not so much. Both girls are super chewers and need a variety of toys that cannot be easily destroyed. Dog beds are not a safe choice for the dynamic duo and only blankets should be used. Both sit on command and are very food/treat motivated. A fenced yard is required since Skylar will run and chase anything that moves. Gypsy and Skyler are the sweetest girls and have never met a human they won’t lick. They have a lot of love to give and would do best in a home where they are not left alone for long periods. This wonderful bonded pair is fostered in Kearneysville, WV. If you meet their requirements and feel you are the right family for them, email odbtr1@gmail.com or bostonlover02@comcast.net to request a Word or PDF format application. Please note, we will not respond to inquiries about them until we have your application on file.
