Story
Please contact Cathleen (cathleen.pronc@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Http:/www.pugrescuenc.com/images/PRONC_Express.jpgON MEDICAL HOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    So we have gotten in a new rescue pug. As you can see her eyes were neglected. Two vet visits, one at the eye specialist and we are still without answers as to exactly what we are dealing with. This poor girl who never had a name, spent all her days in a puppy mill making babies. Thankfully they decided to sell her. A Good Samaritan stepped up, paid her bail money, and broke her out to get her to us to get the care she needs. Please meet Maya! What we know she can only see light. No shapes or anything. She has severe pigmentary keratitis. She has this thick black pigmentation covering her eyes. They cannot even see in the back of her eye. The first vet did eye pressures which were 45 and 50. Normal is less than 25. Today they were normal… maybe that is because we started glaucoma meds or maybe the pigmentation gave a false reading. Hopefully we will get the answers next week at her recheck. She will need long term eye medication and possibly surgery, medial canthoplasty at the very least but the specialist is waiting to see her response to the drops. Either way she will be on LIFELONG prescription drops. We got her shots done, thankfully heartworm negative but she did have whip worms in her stool. So she is getting treatment for those. Maya will still need to be spayed and microchipped. Maya is scared but super sweet and is the happiest in your lap. Probably because she cannot see the world around her. This poor girl is only 1 years old and suffered for that year. Her eyes are like having sandpaper rubbed on them. I know we all just donated for Max’s bill which we are still paying but if you would like to donate towards Maya’s bill. You are welcome to do so through the website or with paypal www.pugrescueofnc@gmail.com  Maya will be on medical hold until we have a handle on her eye needs and she is spayed. Her eyes will be a lifelong commitment with prescription drops. Thank you everyone for helping these very needy pugs. Like a lot puppy mill dogs and blind dogs, Maya would do better with older children as she spooks easily. She is not good around loud noises. She is good around other dogs that are laid back and easy going. She needs lots of time to adjust to a new environment and house training.    Maya is fostered in Virginia Beach, VA Her adoption fee will be $500.00 We are not making an adoption decisions on her at this time until we know her needs and she is ready for adoption.    ALL PUGS MUST BE INDOOR DOGS. They need to be on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We only adopt to states surrounding NC and VA.   Adopt A Pet. . .  Save A Life!http://www.apugrescue.org Http://www.pugrescuenc.org Email us:  admin@pugrescuenc.org      February 28, 2025, 5:58 pm
