Story
🐾 Bowie | ~3 Years Old | Pug Cross“He’s a lover and a fighter!”Meet Bowie — a big personality in a small body! This quirky little pug cross is equal parts cuddly companion and fearless protector. Bowie loves his people deeply and is happiest when he’s right beside you, earning him the title of master clinger and professional cuddler. Those soulful little eyes make it almost impossible to say no to him!Bowie has bursts of high energy and would thrive with an active family who can give him plenty of playtime, a large yard to run in, and a couple of structured walks each day. When he’s not exploring the yard or patrolling for “monsters,” you’ll find him chewing toys, carrying them around proudly, or barking at squirrels and mysterious shadows in the yard. He’s very smart and highly food-motivated, already knowing commands like sit and crate (“in”), and he’s working on stay and come. Puzzle toys and training games are great ways to keep his busy mind happy.Bowie will do best in a detached home since he can be quite vocal and elevators or busy shared spaces can make him anxious. Because he tends to think he’s much bigger than he really is, he can lunge at other dogs on leash and may challenge other pets, so slow introductions and a calm, well-balanced dog would be essential. A dog park lifestyle isn’t the right fit for him.He can also be protective of food and toys, so he currently eats safely in his crate and will need a family committed to continued training and management around resources and introductions to new people. Bowie may initially see strangers as “intruders,” but with proper guidance he can learn that new friends are okay.Bowie is crate trained, house trained, and can relax in his crate for up to about 5 hours when needed. He does deal with anxiety and currently takes medication to help him settle, and chewing is one of his favorite stress releases (so sturdy chew toys are a must!).Despite his tough-guy moments, Bowie’s best quality is his devotion. He loves being close to his person and will happily curl up beside you after a day of adventures. And one more thing — Bowie has a mischievous streak. He has perfected the art of stealing toys from the other dog in the house, leaving her looking at the humans like, “Really? Again?”Ideal Home:✔ Active family✔ Detached home with yard✔ Experienced dog owners willing to continue training✔ Possibly with a calm, balanced dog (slow introductions)Not Ideal For:✖ Dog parks✖ Busy apartment or condo living✖ Homes unable to manage food guarding or training needsIf you’re looking for a loyal, funny, slightly dramatic little sidekick who will love you with his whole heart, Bowie might just be your guy. 🐶💙
