Nevio was surrendered to our rescue shortly after the Christmas holiday. Yup, you guessed it, he was an ill-given Christmas present. The receiving family was caught completely off-guard & was not prepared or equipped to safely take care of a tiny puppy. Fortunately, they reached out to rescue & we had a foster family ready to welcome him. Nevio hit the door with all the enthusiasm & gusto of a child on a sugar rush, lol! He is a ball of fire, ready to play at 100mph & nap with equal fervor!
We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Nevio will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for him. This area will be a part of the home where he can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where he can play, lounge, or nap when his family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too.
In his foster home, adorable Nevio has been learning a schedule & going outside in a fenced yard. He doesn't need a big space; he is tiny now & will remain small as an adult. We will accept applications for families who do not have fence because he is definitely harness trainable. But we will require the home to have a dedicated secure space for Nevio outside, like an xpen. If you do have a fence, it will have to be very secure, with no spaces for a tiny puppy to slip through. NEVER EVER should a puppy be left in a yard without supervision. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles.
We are working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established.
Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.
