Story
Nicki had been living tied up on a 3 ft rope for over 6 months when we were contacted about her. The week prior to her coming into rescue her owner had abandoned her with no food or water. Fortunately this was a time when there was a lot of rain, or she may not have survived. We were sent a video of a stranger giving her tortilla’s, we knew right then we had to help her. Her body language towards this stranger, was a testament to what a sweet girl she was. Nicki has now been with one of our fosters since March 1st but this was only supposed to be a temporary situation and we are hoping to find someone else in the San Diego area that can continue fostering or ultimately willing to adopt her. Nicki is very approachable and bonds very quickly. However, once she settles in to her new environment she will start getting protective, she is a guardian breed and this is to be expected. In Nicki’s previous life her owner took her to dog parks and all around town with him. However, a puppy presa is very different than an adult presa and we would never advocate for this. We have seen her be reactive on a leash when another dog barks at her aggressively but she is easy to redirect and is good about focusing on her handler. She’s also shown a desire to play when observing other playful dogs. She did have a meet n greet with a couple of senior dogs and was so sweet and gentle around them. She has loved all children she’s met since being in our care.

Meet Merlin! He is a 4 year old Mastiff. Merlin was rescued from the shelter over three months ago. He is still healing from a knee surgery so although he's not available for adoption yet we are accepting applications. He is good with people and most dogs. He is a calm playful gentle boy.

How this pet arrived: Rocco was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on August 30, 2024. Why this pet is the one for you:This handsome boy is Rocco! We don't know a whole lot about his history since he was brought in as a stray. His new family will have to take things nice and slow with him while they figure out his likes and dislikes! But with lots of yummy treats and plenty of belly rubs, Rocco is sure to be your best friend in no time! We've learned that he loves to play fetch and walks well on a leash! If this big cutie seems like he could be the dog for you, stop by our Oceanside campus to meet him. Be sure to bring a leash and a collar when you do so you can take him home today! COURTESY POST Hannah’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. She found herself scared and just days away from giving birth at one of California’s toughest high-kill shelters, where she and her 10 puppies were placed on the euthanasia list. But Real Good Rescue and two amazing rescue partners came together to save this brave mama. Despite losing seven of her puppies during this tough transition, Hannah’s spirit never wavered. She proved to be the most loving and dedicated mother, nurturing her babies with unwavering attention, care and play. Thanks to her, all three surviving puppies were quickly adopted into loving homes. And like most mama dogs, Hannah was overlooked. Now, it’s Hannah’s turn to find the forever home she so deeply deserves. At 75lbs and approximately 4 years old, Hannah is the perfect mix of active and chill. She’s a social butterfly who’s lived harmoniously with small dogs and even a 5-year-old child. However, her dream home would be calm, peaceful, and all about her—no other pets, just allowing Hannah to soak up all the love. Outdoors, she enjoys staying active and exploring, but indoors she’s the ultimate couch potato, ready for cuddles and naps.
